Title: Trusting eBay exhausts
Post by: supermgm on 09 August 2013, 17:31:01
Hi guys, Im probably being abit naive but I just want to know some feedback from some of the stock rear boxes that are for sale on eBay, are they any good basically.

Like has anyone had any problems fitting them, have some of the ads specified a particular engine size and it doesn't fit that model. And another quick question, is it possible to put the twin pipe back box on a 2.6 commonly found on the 3.2? As recently my girl has inconveniently split her rear box coming down the M25 the following week, and funnily enough improving me mpg! However i do need to get it done however much I like the sound  ;)

Cheeeeeers

Have a read here - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=117100.0 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=117100.0)

And the twin pipe box will fit onto the 2.6 ok - just make sure you get a saloon one if your's is a saloon - Estate and Saloon systems are different ;)

Many thanks dbug, I originally wanted to get a custom exhaust, simply having two stainless pipes coming from where the original silencer connects, but personally I can't justify why it would be £200  :o

Better getting a cheaper standard 3.0/3.2 item ;)

Fitted a 3.0 back box to the old 2.5 Elite Estate (only because Eternal couldn't supply a single pipe one at the time)

Just a cautionary note here but my rear box blew out. I replaced it and now, a few months later, the secondary air injection system and passenger side manifold are hanging in tatters because the rest of the exhaust system is blocked, including cats. The symptoms are loss of power, increased fuel consumption and interestingly the computer readout when switched to current consumption mode on mine read 0.4 galls to the hour when idling. When everything was fine the consumption figure read 0.3.
All the clues were there but I missed them and now the car is off the road awaiting a complete exhaust inc cats and a manifold.  :'(
The moral of this tale is, if the hoses on the secondary air injection system (front of the engine near the a/c compressor, on the 2.5 v6) start blowing for no apparent reason, then get a new exhaust immediately, cos its blocked!  :-\

I fitted an ETS system with 3.0 back box to my 2.6 because their pictures showed clamshell centre sections for the 3.0 system and oval centre sections for the 2.5. I haven't got round to fitting any extensions to the tail-pipes yet. It does seem to have a bit of bark to the exhaust that I don't think was there before but it isn't noticeable at motorway speeds.
Does anyone else think that the 3.0 (twin tail pipe) backbox is noisier than the single pipe backbox or is it just me ? :-\

I hope it does! I hate the fact that the V6 sound is so dampened, since the exhaust blew up I have been noticing my driving speed has increased  ;)

Both EternalCar and ETS have ebay shops and both have been fitted by OOF members with good results.

Neither list systems for the face-lift Omega B (only pre-facelift 1994-2000 ish). The only difference is that the face-lift has a deeper bumper and so the tail pipe(s) are too short. Fit extensions if it bothers you. If you cannot find a system for the  Vauxhall Omega B then try looking for the Opel Omega B

Don't be tempted to buy a system for an "Omega 2.6" because that is for the (Opel) Omega A (Vauxhall Carlton/Senator) with the straight 6 engine.
