Remember we live in the North, how much would you expect to pay a decent decorator?
What I really want is a 'Jobbing' decorator, someone who can do a few jobs as part of it, ie spindles on the stairs and some minor repairs...... :D :D
-
As you live in the North I expect a few buttons should do the trick! ;) ;D
-
For a decorator we have been given a price of £80 a day from our eldest which is what he is paying and says the decorator is good............ :y :y

Sounds about right. A good friend is a top notch Decorator and charges £120 a day here.

A whippet and four cans of Newcastle Brown should be enough. :y

How hard can it be? ;)

Decorators down this way are on £120 - £140 when on day rate, so £80 in your neck of the woods sounds about right to me.
If you have more than a couple of days work then you may be better off pinning him down to a fixed price rather than day rate.

How about Master Vamps, ably directed by little Ms Vamps?. That should bring your costs down.
As I said before......how hard can it be to slap some emulsion on the walls and ceiling?. ::) ::) ::) ;)

I managed half the livingroom before I got the hump with the whole thing and stopped.. now, in the right light, you can see where the shade of white changes part way along one wall ;D
I'd gladly pay someone to paint for me, now!

Decorating is dead easy......and more often than not you do a much better job than a decorator would
-
Decorating is dead easy...... ..
It is by the time you get to hanging paper or painting, it's the preparation that takes the time & effort :y :y
& I'm not sure that the next time the hall, stairs & landing gets done next time (it'll sooner rather than later) that I want to be balancing along planks that are balanced on ladders etc to get to the very top! ::) ;)
-
Thing is though that when I decorate I unscrew the sockets/switches/doorhandles and take down all the curtain rails and pop radiators off.
The result is a very neat and clean finish.
Decorators just dont do that sadly.

Likewise. Impossible to do a proper job without doing so. :y
(I just slacken the rad fittings & lift and tip the rad to the floor till I've paper/painted behind - I'll have to give a bit more thought though the next time, I now have a pressurised combi system :-\ ;))

Agreed.....the trade is full of people who pissed about at school and then left without any qualifications.
Then, suddenly, almost overnight, they place an advert in the local paper as decorators with years of experience. ;) :)

Just release the pressure first, then pressurise again afterwards. :y
I've changed radiator valves on our system by just doing the above. If there's nowhere for air to get drawn in, the water will just sit there.

A few years ago I was moving a down stairs rad. I used pipe freeze to fit a ball valve so I could take my time. A while later I heard a gurgling above me ....... no point in fitting the valve if you don't turn the bugger off! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

I have just retired from the decorating business, I started in 1960 something. At the finish, I was charging £110 a day :y
-
My brother has been a painter and decorator for 35 years. He lives in poor, deprived Liverpool and charges £150 a day. £750 for a five day week is not unrealistic for a time-served tradesman.
Try calling a plumber, he'll want £80 just to show up.
