Title: 3.2 v6 cambelt question?
Post by: Reg on 14 August 2013, 21:03:45
Hi I've just been and looked at a Y plate 3.2 elite which is in great genuine condition with 85'000 on the clock full service history he wants £1700 . My only issue is the cambelt was done at 67'000 but done 5 years ago,I've read they should be 40'000 or 4 years what do you guys think? I've told him it should of been done really, not sure what to do she is a beauty.

Belt needs doing - No question.

In terms of price - If it were pristine and fully loaded with Nav etc, then I'd still want a deal factoring in the cost of belt etc.  :y

It would be unfair to suggest how much to knock off the price as I don't know how much you are willing to do/spend/try yourself.

I don't want to influence your decision on buying the car, if that makes sense?

All I will say is, if it were me, I'd be looking closer to £1k for a properly sorted Y plate 3.2.  85k Mileage is low, but mileage isn't a major concern when looking at an over decade old car.

As I've always done in the past, if your heart and head says deal, make a deal.  If any doubt, walk away and something else will come up.

what you have to factor in is the cost of the belt kit, water pump, coolent, and as your down that way full service, thats plugs, oil n air filter, oil, fuel filter o and possibility of brake pads so you wave a grand cash tops, start at £850,explain the above in a nice way and start  negotiations
thats my out look on this 8)

I know they are not like for like, but to give you an idea of what you CAN get for a lot less monies.

I think I would struggle to get it for 1500, I've got a mechanic said he will do the belt for me so price of a cambelt kit and bung him a few notes for his time.Other than that I kind of think its top end for a reason can't see any bad points .

Sorry, but unless it's a minter ( with nothing significant needing doing) then I think it's way to pricey.

Possible not of too much help but gives you a guide what can be done.

I negotiated hard on a 2003 .03 plate 3.2 with 115k fully documented, which was advertised in the region of your guys.I factored in camkit/water pump/back-front brakes and general touching up where needed and we shook hands at less than four figures which I was happy with.

Not saying all sellers will fold that easily but wad of crisp £20,s does focus the mind  ;D
