Little buggers survived. According to the clearers, there is a nest near the fence. I thought they'd been a few about over the last month or so, I assume it was the fire and rotting freezer contents that was causing it.
Anyone ever gotten rid of a nest. Looking at quotes, all online sources seem to be wishy-washy on price...

Wasps nests being essentially paper burn very well! :)
Touch it with a burning rag on the end of a long stick, watch it light..... and leg it!!!! ;D

I was told about the nest by my neighbour, who was relaying the message from the clearers. I suggested petrol, but my neighbour said I'd caused enough fire damage this summer ;D

expanding foam :y
or (boring method) - get some "wasp killer" dusting powder
-
Rightly so... You shouldn't be allowed any more fire!!!
Nippon ant powder works but they go a little mad and with the current high temps and children next door I wouldn't advise it ;)
Shouldn't be much more than £50 or so I would think... Although that doesn't include taking it away, just killing it off ;)
They are like bees in as much as killing the queen kills the nest :y

Powerwasher?

Powerwasher?
Thought of that, but mine's melted. As is my neighbour's :-[

And so are our hosepipes...
How about sinking a good few cans and when at bursting point ... ready aim fire :P
But seriously best of luck. I have just noticed wasps flying into my loft - need to go and investigate one day :(

Hmmm, would it be wise to be "vulnerable" when pissing off wasps, as if they swarm and attack.... ;D
-
Get a can of "wasp nest destroyer" (probably branded Raid or Nippon, cannot remember which).
It squirts a jet of liquid which can destroy the whole nest.
I had a nest in the cavity of my last house and a can fixed it :)
-
When you're tanked up nicely you won't care about that ..... you'll think you're invincible :P
-
I only destroy their nests if they are a danger to us, as they do a lot of good in killing other pests. However, if I have to get rid of them, and I've got rid of two in our Close this year, I use wasp killer powder, puffed liberally around the nest entrance, it is carried into the nest by the wasps, which kills the queen. End of. :y

The last wasps nest I cleared I used powder, a lot of it as the nest was huge. I also made sure to be fully wrapped up in 4 Romeo (ie full CBRN kit)

You wont have to wait too much longer now before the nest dies out naturally and they wont use it again next year.
-
Last year i used the powder , sure enough it killed them but on application they were flying around very mad with the powder on them stinging fek out of me >:( >:(
Best to dust them in the evening when they are asleep .. must remember that ::)
-
I like the shotgun approach! 8)
Although it would be quite understandable if TB's neighbours are a bit twitchy at the moment when things go bang! ::) ;D
-
Call in the army ;D
But on a serious note, A wise idea as Mr Emd said tackle them in the evening or at night even.. :y

No point in tackling them when they aren't out... You need the drone wasps to carry the powder through the nest to the queen ;)

Aye if using the powder method, But couldn't you just dowse it in powder at night so they crawl on it when the sun rises ? , Another idea say 11pm (by then they'll all be tucked up in bed by then so to speak) go out get a good stron big plastic bag and put the nest in and seal it up and ummm ... Around here I'd prob get the metal oil drum out and light the match not much else you could do without causing griff else where like throwing the bag in the dustbin or in a river or some woods etc .. Reading that back the powder option seems the best way to go :o :D ;D

Our wasp nest was underground under some berried pallets :-X Stupidly when i thought they were all dead i poked the nest and out they came again >:( Takes a while for the powder to kill them all . Other way is to call the council and get it done properly , last i heard it was about $60 8)

Kettle of boiling water would have sorted that one! :)

I haven't tried the wasp powder and having read the descriptions above I don't ever intend to ::)
This stuff works though. One application and the job was done :y
