Title: Bloody parents
Post by: martin42 on 23 August 2013, 19:02:10
My mums next door neighbour asked me to do some work for her,and just sent my mum a txt telling her to let her know how much it is,got the reply how much!!! from my mum.,all it is remove old tiling at end of window.replace tiling,plaster board,reseal everywhere and also install a new window sill inside where they replaced the old double glazing unit,also bearing in mind the partner who i have also grown up with,taught me to drive properly lol,also i was his apprentice for a few years,all tho he is now longer with us,i do my bit to do odd jobs around her house,i thought i was being very reasonable about the price,but parents dont realise how much things cost these days,the total price was only £70 a bit for labour and some petrol money,rest for materials as i dont use cheap stuff(yes i know i buy and fit pattern parts lol) but when i do a job for a friend or customer or prefer to use quality materials so job is done once and lasts for a very long time.

explain that you want to use decent materials, if they want it cheaper then they will get a crap job as the materials won't last as long

I dont think some old timers realise the cost to get workers in to do anything now,you'll have to bite the bullet on this one!

Sorry buddy, thought it was the neighbour been the pain  :-[

Just had a similar one myself.
Ended up rebuilding a very large alarm system at my cousins house.
Did the job @ standard rate minus tax for cash.
My cousin was well happy and gratefull  :)
Next thing I know, I have my auntie on the phone to my dad kicking off about how much I charged her and saying I ripped her off  >:(
Needless to say, in my true not very diplomatic way words was exchanged  :-X :-X :-X

The thing that pished me off was ................ my cousin is a research chemist on £200,000 plus a year and her husband is the retired ex 2nd in command of Humberside Fire Brigade so he is on a bloody good screw too  >:(

Famlies  ::) ::)
