Indeed... That's just starting it normally whist in motion ;)
In theory an auto can be bump started at sufficient speed but I've never tried or seen it done. I suspect a modern one wouldn't bump anyway.

The C3 box in the Mk2 Granada needed to be towed at 30 for a mile or so first, then slam it into D. Best done with a long tow rope, as either a short rope or pole meant a pretty good chance of totalling the tow car ;D
The A4LD fitted to the Mk3 would just about bump start with a 100 yard run up, done it on a couple of occasions when the starter solenoid failed, only a four pot though, so a bit less effort required :y

I knocked mine into neutral a little while back while doing ~30mph downhill.. made a heck of a thump going back into drive! Decided I didn't like the sound of that and wouldn't do it again ;D

Trying bump starting an 08 diesel shunting engine.....that is a scary procedure!

Years ago I had a 1.8 auto Marina. Long legged male passenger knocked it into neutral while we were cruising at 70 mph. At the time , I never gave it another thought, and just popped it back into drive. No bang and no issues!

One of my brothers had an old Mercedes some years ago,in the handbook it stated you could bump start it by getting it up to 40mph within 100yds!!I have been told[don't know how true it is]that bumping starting any car[manual or auto]that's fitted with a catalytic converter is a no-no as it can ruin the cat.
