Exactly the same with VM, it's just the same regurgitated shit that was being broadcast 2 years ago, and then repeated again last year

To be fair, Sky have chucked a load of cash at new home brew content.

Chickens
Trollied
The Cafe
Stella
Mad Dogs
Strike Back

What have Virgin Media done? Not a lot!

Have you actually watched any of those Tunnie? It might be just me but I thought they were utter dross.

In these difficult financial times I am constantly amazed at how much extra people spend on top of their basic TV licence.

I don't know whether it was growing up with very few channels at all - but I'm more than satisfied with what's on offer on Freeview, with 98% of viewing being the main channels. Now that Youview is here I'm really quite content.

I suppose the majority of people who take Sky/VM are happy to pay for sport or movies - personally I'm not. But that aside I see the majority of what else is on offer as being of very little value. I have been/am tempted from time to time by Nat Geographic - but its a hell of a step up to pay just for that.

Hey ho, each to their own - but I'm really really surprised that subscriptions are continuing to increase in this climate - which must be a measure of how much value people place on these services.

All IMHO of course

Only times I use the TV's in our house is to watch DVD's or Movies on demand or when the XBox gets switched on.  :-X

For some, the services offered by pay-tv companies are deemed essential. And whilst you can afford it, why not have it if thats what floats your boat.

I can't think of anything on Sky I'd want to watch that is worth the additional subscription, so I don't subscribe, and use that money towards any other hobbies and things I want to do with my time.

Others think the subscription is worthwhile, and thus subscribe, possibly cutting back elsewhere in many cases. Thats our/their choice.

What did used to get on my goat, back when I used to have a real job fixing phones, is all the spongers, to stereotype, peroxide blonde teenagers with 3 kids, given a large council house and enough benefits to keep them in fags and lotto tickets, all having Sky TV. Grrrrr. And breathe!

I'd rather have my scrotum removed with a rusty Stanley Knife than pay a penny for Sky. :)

TBH, even if it were free, I'm not sure I'd bother having it....

...yet for some, £840 a year for Sky is value in their eyes.

But then I pay a premium price for my broadband, over £35 a month. To me, thats worth the money.

I do not have Sky and rely on freesat/freeview etc.

Sky for many seems to be a lot like comfort food - I frequently hear the argument that Sky is my only luxury...etc but ok - you have to spend more time in doors and can't afford to go out - I understand that - but honestly recent content on freeview is absolutely fine including kids stuff and putting away £5-800 towards a family holiday would be preferable.

In many households football/sport rules and whilst we can all take the moral high ground on the subject maybe Sky delivers the ingredient that many households decide on balance is their best choice to suit them. The market will sort itself out over time.
