Hi, just bought a 2L Omega estate with no chip in key and transponder removed.Previous owner said he needed them and I thought I would be breaking car but its too good. The main problem with car is the cylinder head so I have got a replacement.Wil I need a new ecu, transponder and chip? Is the ecu now useless? Any help appreciated, thanks Ged.

What age car is this? It makes a difference ............

If it starts, no worries. :y

Cant see it starting without a keychip or transponder. ???
Chip and transponder need to be matched to the ecu,so either source a three from the same car,or possibly a tech 2 session could match a key / transponder to your existing ecu.

My understanding was that earliest cars had an immobiliser which could be bypassed, whereas after a couple of years the immobiliser and ECU were matched - and in turn had to be configured to accept key chips. I don't know the details though. I scrapped a car once and rescued the ECU/immobiliser/chips and keys/lock set just to get a 2nd key for my own car - so I know that the total swap method works.

In which case it fits into the later category & you will need the lot .....

Post 1995, Omegas got the better remote locking and immobiliser system to replace the rather crap (for class of car) IR setup. This later type is far more difficult to bypass.
A new transponder can be coded to the car, but you need a (real) Tech2 and the carpass. Alternatively, replace engine ECU/Immobiliser ECU/Transponders with a matched set.

Thanks to everyone for the info. I shall obtain all 3 items. Could someone let me know where the ECU and transponder are fitted? Thanks Ged.

Engine ecu near battery, immobiliser ecu around ignition barrel, transponder is in the keys
