Is there anything that I can do to make the wipers less noisy?
I've repeatedly shouted "shut the f*ck up" but it makes no difference.
The wipers are new and the screen is spotlessly clean, but unless the heavens open and the rain comes down with biblical fury, the wipers still groan and moan as they wipe the screen.
Any ideas, chaps?

Sprayed IPA on my screen and wipers fairly new bosch wipers with this stuff, Screen is now silent, Even with the nano technology stuff i've put on top of the screen :y
Something like this to clean.

Get your handyman to give the screen a good rub over with meths which will remove all the tiny rubber deposits that have built up over the years. :)
-
Flat blades :y
-
I had this problem for quite a while, even when i changed the blades. When investigated i found the arms had a slight twist in them. After a few tweeks with a small wrench, said blades are still working silently. This may also be a cure to your problem
-
Fit decent wipers?
-
Usually a sign they are "past their best" Mr Opti
-
Halfords ones by any chance? I'm finding the same, they make a "crack" when changing direction.
Going to put GM ones back on, far more, but far better :y
-
mine was like that---i put bosch blades on--problem gone-- :y
I would say change blades mate

Thanks, This may be worth a go. I've used meths and white spirit, all without success. :(

With those stupid, over zealous rain sensing wipers, you have to use this crap, as they do last longer on a dry screen than a traditional set.
However, I still maintain that a traditional wiper does a better (cleaning) job, having used both types throughout the life of the blades.

The aero style are good at moving water from a screen (wet or dry), but poor at removing the debris from a summer's evening thrashing. The traditional wipers are better at this, but just shred themselves on dryish screens.

Going by Tunnies remarks on cost, where the Gm ones are now expensive(£?) I'd have to say the twins are now far superior in every way to those, and most others.
They last very well, clear well, are totally silent and dont lift. As was said on here years ago, but those with entrenched views refused to accept another view and without first hand experience of the product concerned.
How we're expected to trust the views of a cirtain admin in the face of such erratic posts I'm not sure. ESP given posts on loosing new members recently where we're expected to be more accepting of "the other view"!
Is it any wonder we are generally "lead astray" given the above and the devils advocate approach without ecperience...? Sorry, but I find this hypocritical frankly.
-
Do t get me wrong though its just wipers FFS ;D
But just talk straight. No?
-
I suppose I could change them but the RAC ones are almost new and I'm not made of money. :-\

Buy cheap buy twice comes to mind, Long term it's worth the few quid extra to go for a reputable brand :y

Eh?
I have used GM, pikey, Goodyear aero and Bosch aero twins.
I still maintain the traditional wipers clear the screen of dirt/flies etc better (when new).
However, since having a car with stupid rain sensing wipers, these do prematurely wear traditional wipers, due to semi dry screens. For these, aero style make sense, for life, as traditional seem to go after a few months.
For non rain sensing wipers, I still prefer traditional, due to superior performance. Quality brands, not shite, normally Bosch now, as GM seen to have gone downhill.
That said, I have aeros on the Bullet, but that's because all I had when it was last mot'd :-[

I was under impression GM ones had jumped from around £3 each to £15 each now on trade? :-\

I had the same remady as derek89. Found a very small twist in drivers side arm. gave a tweak and now quiet

£9 rings a bell ? I don't recall a pair being anywhere near £3 or £6.
But clearly, for £15 and 2 years life and superior performance generally with twins, it does look like GM blades aren't selling. They are poor by comparison to twins ime. To suggest otherwise, well... ::)

I think GM come out around £14 on TC. Just had to buy some twins yesterday, as with the rain, the melted ones (I *think* they were GY) on TBE weren't too effective ;D. So twins are a shade over £17 on Halfords trade as of yesterday.
Perfomance wise, I tend to get about a year off aero style (not noticed a great deal of difference between GY or Bosch twins), and about 6 months from GM. So aero work out cheaper than GM for me :). However, none of the aero ones I've tried have been that great at moving bugs and general crap from the screen (compared to a GM blade) - do you see that? Additiionally, take a day like yesterday, coming up the M40, it was hammering down, and 60ish mph was about the limit possible, and the Bosch ones were really struggling to clear the screen of water (better on the slower wiper speed, rather than the auto wiper's fast speed), though the wipers were brand spankers, maybe need an element of bedding in? Dunno.
As for the relatively short life I get from wipers, I wonder if its the amount of dust were I live. Those who've been here a few times will know what I mean. As the wind blows across the fields, it seems to gather dust, pollen etc, and dump it all over the cars, drive, property. I wonder if that becomes abrasive in the summer months, and that first flick of the wipers to clear the dust will always be on a dry screen :-\

So the wipers have twin blades, rather than just a single blade?.........Is that right TB?

You could also try something like this which helps the water off much quicker at slower speeds and If going over 50mph personally I don't need to use the wipers that much in medium downpour of rain, Heavy rain 2nd speed on wipers... And wont frost over in winter (apparently) and cleans better in hotter weather with bug stains on the screen etc., Still working as good as day one on mine :y

I don't see the dust thing at all tbh.
ESP considering my car is normally parked in front of/blocking the garage door. The roof slopes away directly above under the tiles, as opposed to a gable end, if that makes sense. So all the sharp gravel and bits of tile coating get blown or washed off onto the car below. It's horrid stuff. The aero twins have lasted two years in these conditions.
I really don't see any reason to use Gm. As said so long ago.
But there we are. Take it or leave it. :)
-
Hmmm.....choices.
Try some Aero Twins, or stick with the noisy RAC wipers and try some nano technology as Mr Omega Man suggests.
I don't suppose there's a 'two bob fix' out there that would work. As mentioned I've already used meths and white spirit on the screen.

Both would be ideal, But we'd be talking around the £30 mark :-\
-
I've just noticed that only the driver side wiper drags and shudders across the screen ( both wet and dry)
The passenger side wiper seem fine by comparison.
I wonder......Could the wiper arm/blade be twisted?. There isn't much else it can be.
-
I don't see the dust thing at all tbh.
I'm trying to think why I get such a short life. I don't think I'm excessively fussy, so don't think I'm changing them prematurely. I tend now to use wipers much, but then Mrs TB will use them at the drop of a hat.
The car isn't garaged, but I suspect few are.

My Bosch aero twin on the M3 do exactly the same thing - judder and bang with the change in direction.. drives me nuts.
By contrast the cheap no-name eBay (£7 a pair) 'flat' blades on the Omega are perfect.. ;D
And whatever are on the Micra just smear the windscreen like you're greasing a baking tin... ;D ;D

I recognise that symptom. Not been anywhere absolutely incredibly hot, has it ;D
