Title: Oxfordshire - Cambelts
Post by: joshwyatt on 18 September 2013, 11:30:40
Are there any members local to Oxford, or maybe further afield who want a cambelt change?
Daz will be coming down at some point to do 1, possibly 2 for me, so it'd be ideal timing (like the pun?  ;D )for any others who may need them doing.
Dates are dependant on when Daz is free, and if anyone else wants work done...nothing set in stone yet!

I'll come along if I may, no cambelts required on mine.

Depending on dates, I'd possibly pop along. More for a social thing, though I have got a pesky oil leak that he has unfinished business with ;D

Just done mine at Newent. Would have beat the Master doing TB's too, if he hadn't pinched the good locking kit. ;D

Do you still have an oil leak on your mv6 Jammy? :(

Aye.

Thought to be either dipstick tube (but neither Gixer, Taxi Al, tunnie or I can get it out) or oil pump

That the dipstick won't just pull out, does suggest that it doesn't leak, which only leaves that pesky oil pump ::)

As the compressor has to come out - its let go internally - is the dipstick visible?

I've got space for 6 vehicles to be worked on, 8 at a push, and other parking for guests...so we could make a good day of it!

Should be clearer with the compressor out of the way :y

Is it an arsehole job?

I still have a nagging doubt its the dipstick, esp as after we tugged and tugged on it all day at the Wycombe meet, the leak appeared to improve. But as we couldn't shift it, there must be a half decent seal in there.

Beyond that, out of ideas. If you recall, we sealed the upper and lower sumps, cam cover gaskets have been changed, we changed the crank seal up at the farm. Master checked the cam seals at Newent, all OK.

So the only seal left is between the crankcase and the oil pump :y

Besides its only 10 bolts ::)

One of them being that rather tight crank one :o

Does compressor need to come off for oil pump?

Its a bit of a pain... I have a crank tool  ;)
There are bolts inside the sump that need undoing.......I am trying to remember but doesnt the dipstick  have a clip in the sump to hold it in.......

Where the oil pump fits to the block you use sealant..... like I said not seen any actually leak from there. Ask The Master to see if he has....if not I doubt it will be that as he and I have seen quite a few between us

I asked at Newent, but he seemed to give the impression it was unlikely.  A localish member to me, jb, who has had a fair few Omegas, has seen leaks from there.

Any other ideas where it could leak? Reckon its that side of the block, as it initially appears on the top of the sump, between block and compressor.

Mr Haynes says nowt about the compressor, simply that the alternator needs slackening in order to swing it to one side :y

Aloy plate between bottom of block and top of the sump ? My p/fl sprung a leak from there,at which point I sold it.

As in the upper sump? DLK resealed that for me a while back....

Lets do it then. I assume your oil pump is ok still, so just a atter of removing it, clean up then reseal.... cambelt needs to come off, sump, sump casting....oil pump slides forwards when all the bolts are removed

Just like that ;D

I did suspect as much when we where tryingfailing to remove the dipstick at Wycombe, but TB was less than convinced ::)
