Title: Are your garage contents insured?
Post by: TheBoy on 21 September 2013, 19:11:48
I wasn't aware of this until recent events, but it seems to be incredibly common on most home policies that parts and accessories for motorised vehicles (cars, bikes etc) are specifically excluded from your policy.

That means service items, roof boxes, spare wheels, cem's winter bloody tyres, batteries, bulbs and assorted spares we collect are all uninsured.

If this is important to you, check your policy!

I didn't. My car insurance is not valid if I put winter tyres on. But lets not start that topic again :).  This is a warning for others, based on my misfortune.

Hmmm. Some quite valuable bodywork in the garage. ::)

But, I really don't think it's unreasonable to expect spare parts to be in a "garage" !

They mean to say, that winter tyres, snow chains, roof boxes, roof racks, cycle racks, parts for the next service etc etc ... Should be fitted to the car at ALL times?

Even though its not winter, your not travelling on holiday or carrying a load, and the service isn't quite due yet.

As per other thread, my quote with Halifax, it stated it would cover tools and service parts. £5k theft, unlimited flood/fire.

Check the smallprint wording.

I believe tools are covered, this is a warning about vehicle parts and accessories. Having found out about this, it seems to be a common clause put in by underwriters (Halifax are likely a broker)

What happened a couple of weeks ago then, as a seeming prereq to part of Lloyds being sold off?

It looked like a break. Turned out all loan applications etc. were still going to the same head office. ;D

LBG (Lloyds Banking Group)
Consists of Halifax, Bank Of Scotland, TSB, C&G, SW and many more.

TSB is for sale, its what was to be sold under Project Verde to Coop until the deal fell through.

All a load of  BEEEEEEEEEP. (my ex-employer)

Alas I haven't had a garage for 7 years now  :'(

Mind you, have four sheds of parts...  ::)

Would be nice to move back over towards Warwickshire and have a property with garage, but then, that's not going to happen on my wages.

Most policies do not cover items that do not personally belong to you anyway.

I think ABS should be providing cover, or at least willing to accept the loss, for that stuff. IMHO anyway.
