Today I went to my friendly Vx dealer and got them to fit new number plates and mud guards that I had purchase at trade from their parts department.
I spent my time waiting for the job to be done, and got rather carried away looking at an Antara 4x4, in black, that was in the showroom. Got talking to the salesman, and got the price on a 2.2 SENav down from £25K to £20K if I paid cash, less what they gave me on my Omega. I really got serious about it, and have even arranged a test drive, as I was very tempted for some strange reason. Big, high up, 4x4, with a good loading of goodies, a brand new smell that I have not known for some years now. Also I could face up to the other silly bitches in their 4x4 in Sainsbury's car park!
However, the parts guy who I know well asked why would I want to sell my Omega. The service chap, John, who lives in my block of flats, also asked the same question. He added that as a matter of standard practice they had carried out a health check on my car; it came through "faultless", and was he stated "an immaculate low mileage example". He added if I wanted to sell my Omega he would be "highly interested" in it! He said "name your price"!
I went away scratching my head and thinking about what the hell was I thinking about! My Omega, a brilliant late example, which I had at peak performance with nothing needing to be done until servicing next year. To lose for an Antara, which I have now researched on line and discovered some decidedly poor reviews. Very poor mpg; noisy, sub standard performing diesel 2.2 engine, cheap interior, light uncertain steering, amongst the reviews by What Car? and private individuals! Then I would immediately lose £Xk's in tax and depreciation, along with ending up with a car that no-one would want second hand, unless at a give away price!
I got into my 3.2 Elite Omega, zooming away without hesitation, surrounded by most of the goodies found in any Antara SENav, with the added rear heated seats and electric front memory seats, not available in the 4x4, accelerating to a nice fast, but smooth quiet speed, with most other cars not being able to match my miggy's performance. Lose all this for an Antara; I would be bonkers to do so! ::) ::) ::) ::) :D :D :D ;)

Yep, no brainer really Red Baron! :y :y :y
Even the "Life 100,000 mile Warranty" could not tempt me ;D ;D ;D ;)

I also discovered during my talk with the salesman that the Antara is manufactured in the Far East, Indonesia if I remember correctly! :o :o :o :o :o
Not even European then!! ::) ::) ::) ::) :( :(

Dont meant to be a 'dangle berries' but so much for British engineering. .........

My brother has one as a company car. Roomy, good on fuel, but after 50k, the drivetrain makes a funny grumbling noise at various revs, there's summat not quite right with the engine, but noone can pinpoint it. Fortunately his promotion sees him losing it, so he's looking to buy
something anything else :y
Basically, don't do it :y really nice clean Omegas can only appreciate over time, especially as the mainstream manufacturers keep churning out the same identikit rubbish :-\

We've had this before,Al. If it wasnt for wifey, who reckoned my zafira was starting to look shabby, I'd still be driving that. I had it four years, it passed every mot and didn't cost a penny in repairs. That's what I want from a car.
Incidentally, how many orlandos have you driven?

None, thankfully ;D
I have a perfectly useable Omega, so have never seen the need :y I don't subscribe to the 'new car for the sake of it' way of thinking, and understand that otherwise sensible people won't keep a car past 3 or 4 years ::)
Apologies if I touched a nerve :-[
