Took delivery of it in Nov/2012.
Had a call from Lookers yesterday to remind me it was due for it's annual service, which according to their records would be a major service £298 including parts and lubricants :o
I could do with the book stamped as it's still under warranty.
Got the service book out to see exactly what they did prior to me taking delivery.
The book reads as follows:-
The work is marked with yes or no
Yes = was exchanged or replaced
No - no exchange necessary.
Yes - Battery (key)
Yes - Pollen filter
Yes - Air cleaner element
Yes - Ribbed Belt
Yes - Toothed belt
Yes - Fuel filter
Yes - Transmission fluid
Yes - Brake fluid
Yes - Tyre repair kit (car doesn't have one)
Yes - Brake pads front/rear
Yes - Spark plugs (it's a diesel)
Yes - Coolant
Which means to me all the major work has been carried out, but I bet it wasn't.
Just wondering what my approach should be to Lookers?
Any thoughts please?

Simple, confirmation that it is a major service required given the ticked items in the service book.
Dont forget, you can buy the oil and filter plus any other service items on trade club and present it to them with the Vx invoice to save a fair bit of cash.
Alternatively, you can get it serviced to Vx spec with approved parts at a VAT registered place and then take the car for a free annual check with the evidence in order to preserve the warranty.
I have spoken to you before about Lookers......... :y

If a major service is required, why have did they replace all the items ticked at the last service?

For the same things that we spoke about regarding tow bars etc when you bought the car.
Lookers are bloody untrustworthy cowboys, as per your tow bar, if Lookers went bust tomorrow, everything assoicated with its wiring install would be null and void warranty wise (as Vx wont cover it).
They have probably not even lifted the bonnet on it when sold and simply ticked all the boxes, it could well have been the sales team that did it to!
Either way, call the service department and ask them about the service and request confirmation as to what work was done last time (it will be on record). You know as well as I do that they will only have changed the oil filter at best......but they have ticked everything so you need confrimation that the waork was done and if not why not.

Yup ;)
We both knew that :D

Interesting, if I supply the oil, filter, sump plug, pollen filter, air filter and fuel filter, the price drops from £298 to £93.

Happy days then!

:o
And plenty left over for custard :)

Can't believe that they're charging £200 for service parts :o
-
Add up the retail price for the items....

£200 for service parts that they probably won't use, just tick the box again and stick it on your bill.
Even if you take your own stuff along, they'll probably use crap stuff and use yours for their own cars ;D
Can you tell I don't like main dealers? ::)

About £66 inc VAT.
T/C prices.

As much as I don't trust main dealers, I trust the local independents even less.
I wouldn't be taking it near a main dealer if I didn't want to preserve my warranty!

Yes and retail is MUCH higher, retail is nearly 50 notes just for the oil

Have you done any DIY work on it yet? If so how have you found it?

Now they've confessed that, trading standards for what they have put in writing they did a year ago ;)

I'm afraid I haven't, I'm getting a bit too old now for lying on my back under cars.

There easy enough, oil filter is a bit 'V6' ish as its at the rear of the engine. Basicaly the same setup as the 1.9 CDTi

Oh fun! You would have thought on an engine designed for FWD use it would be better placed.
Always amazed in comparison Audi/BMW's have them accessible from above in the engine bay, least on the 3.0/4.0 ones i've seen.

Probably are, but found a local garage that will change the oil and filter for £20, whilst I'm watching them, torqued up properly ;D

All the modern Vx engines are easily accessable at the front.....the CDTi is a Fiat design.
Plus there is a bloody great big turbo at the front in the way
