I am in the process of designing a bespoke drawer system for under the stairs in the new house. The wife and I are foodies and we have a lot of kitchen equipment. New kitchens have minimal space.
We are thinking something along the lines of this:
And having one of them for all the elctrical stuff we have such as food processor, juicer, toaster, etc. The train of thought is instead of mere storage why not have them installed and wired in. There is a socket nearby which can be used, I am also thinking that some kind of isolation switch arranged so that the power supply is disconnected unless the drawer is fully extended.
Is it legal to do something like this?
Are there switch systems like this available which I (or most likely an electrician) can implement instead of fashioning my own?
:-\

I like the idea of that, would love to do the same, but my new new place has a door in the sitting room which leads under the stairs.
Think it would be ok for juicer or food blender, but I wonder about items that create a lot of heat? It would need to stay open while they cool?
Would you be doing the leccy work yourself or getting someone in? I'm going to need on in next few months for some work in the garage, be good to know if you find a good person :y

I had someone in mind but he needs to recuperate :y
I am sure I will find someone in his extended network ;D

The person in question recommended a tiller for some bathroom work I had done, excellent workmanship, very happy with the work done.
Was thinking same for electrical work, but did not want to ask given his health at the moment.

If it wasn't for the fact that under the stairs is where we currently keep the furry animals .. I'd love to have a cupboard setup like that in my house.
When you're done with yours.... ;) ;D

I have always worked by the principal that if your kitchen cannot cope in storing what you need in that room you simply have too much and need a clearout! ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
As for using electrical kitchen appliances under the stairs.................well you obviously do not do much cooking! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;)

I like the storage option ... :y :y :y
but would be concerned about heat, steam (damp ?), fumes, smell and the possibility of spillage if any appliances were actually used in situ, there would also be concerns about stability as well as the electrical supply. :'( :'( :'(

Stability - drawers would be on coasters.
It's only an idea. The appliances would only be used with the drawer opened, the idea of the push switch would be to isolate the power supply when said drawer is not opened fully out :y

What we have fits in our current kitchen but we are downsizing. We like cooking a variety of different styles of food from cajun/mexican, european all the way through asia and we are both very good. Which is probably why I am a little retund ::)

Neat solution mate :y

Neat idea 8) as Entwood has observed steam /smells/spillages might cause an issue :-\
We had a house once which had the microwave built into the adjoining wall of the hall cupboard and had a bit of an issue there :-\
A solution would be to fit a base unit with worktop above across the end of the understair space. A couple or four sockets and a deep shelf above might be worth considering, with the solution you've pictured for the lower end of the stairs :-\ depends on the layout really...

Having met you (finally), rotund would not be in any of the vocabulary I'd use to describe you.. ;D

He is tall for his age ;D

If you do it yourself, there are no laws for electrical, until you come to sell.
Obviously, if you fry the missus or visitors (welcome or otherwise), then you'll be in trouble...
