Title: Spare a thought
Post by: pscocoa on 07 October 2013, 17:25:56
For the poor person hit by a train near West Byfleet. All lines  between London and Woking closed and I am stuck at Esher. Chaos will follow for some time and people now getting out of train to make their evening journeys in some other way. This train was supposed to be non stop Waterloo to Farnborough and I "was" supposed to pick someone up.

Apparently the guy walked out onto the track and just put his head on the line - think of what the poor driver saw before him.

Indeed, I know a few drivers and one has hit a suicide victim and its difficult to get over even under those circumstances.

I also know somebody who hit a car at a level crossing and described the noise of the metal tearing as similar to that made when you open a bag of crisps.

Dreadful to think it came to that for someone, no other options but to end it all?  :'(

I wonder if they were looking towards the train or away from it when they put thier head on the rail.

That is the price some people choose to pay for not keeping up with the Jones' :'(

The fact that the Jones' own nothing but emptiness and crippling debt always seems to escape people's view of themselves :-\

That is truly awful! My heart goes out not only to the poor guys family but especially to the train driver who will live with the consequences for the rest of their life :(

A sad but all too frequent occurrence.  :(

Sadly, when people do this there are many people that suffer, not only the trauma for the driver, but also the sadness and guilt felt by their families and friends.  :(

The only one who seems to get off scott free is the victim, so so sad.

The train driver gets time off work and lots of counselling, and a pay out,
its not like they can swerve.

The local rumour mill (my other half works just round the corner from the station) suggested he had cut his way through fencing to get onto the tracks.

Bloody yes, painful, not convinced it lasts long enough for that!

I used to attend this informal group for people with mental health problems. I made some good friends, one of them a nice guy called Phil. I really liked him.

It was a horrible shock when he hung himself.
