Title: Cleaning a DBW throttle body
Post by: Webby the Bear on 07 October 2013, 22:52:04
Hey y'all, hope you're all mighty fine :)

When a car has DBW am I correct in thinking you shouldn't try and move the throttle butterfly open? if that's the case how'd you go about cleaning it fully?  :y

I'm not aware that you can't move the butterfly, I've done it several times on 2.2's.

See my guide.

If you can get your hands on one of those hand held steam cleaning contraptions, they and a old toothbrush works a treat  :y

Thanks TG, yeah i use the toothbrush method ;)

i just could have sworn i watched a vid or read something where it said you shouldnt open the butterfly manually on a DBW. And as my ford fusion's needs cleaning and its a dbw i didnt want to damage it :)

Done mine a couple of times now by slowly pushing it open with my fingers.
Never had a problem as I always gently push it shut again when finished  :)

Very productive day. Cleaned throttle body and moved it back no problem. was a bit dirty. cleaned the MAP sensor with contact cleaner also as apparently they're known to gather sh*t and set error codes/give trouble with starting....... may have something to do with the ''cage'' type housing its in  ::)
