Title: It always happens to me.
Post by: unlucky alf on 08 October 2013, 16:06:55
I decided to change out my water pump, fan belt, rad & thermostat on the old tractor the other day due to a slight cooling issue, Rad came out pretty well as did the water pump, From then on it all went oopsy :'(. Firstly I couldn't get the thermostat bolts undone as they just tried to round off >:(, I then happened to take a glance at the front cross member & it looked a little flakey, So I thought i'd remove the fans to clean up the cross member & give it a blast with stonechip, With a firm tug out came the first fan along with 4 inches of rusty metal attached :o, Then pulled on the second one & that too had a similar sized lump of rusty crud hanging from it >:(., So now I have a new cross member waiting for me to fit when my anger subsides & enthusiasm kicks in once more, My other half says I should scrap the old girl but as the cross member looks pretty easy to do I reckon I should save her (that's the car & not the mrs ;D), Has anybody done one of these before & anything to take into account?. ;)

Blimey I didn't think it would knock out the tracking :o, Oh well I suppose it's just another "aw bugga" moment to add to all the other "aw bugga" moments I've had since I've owned this trusty old chariot!.

Just as well to keep everything you can, I went down to the VX stealership as I wanted some of those little plastic clip in nut things (expanding nuts?), Nope he don't have them & cant get them, I then asked for two bobbin (cotton reel) mounts for the intercooler rad, He comes back & tells me they are no longer available  >:(, bleedin' useless lot they are.

Thanks for that!, Only the front cross member mate, I've now got to explain to the other half that my barrage of profanities earlier were unjustified. :D
