Title: TC and ABS light
Post by: Clarky15 on 08 October 2013, 19:14:54
Omega 2.5 CD. My ABS and TC warning lights come on randomly and the speedo stops working. It can happen when the car is cold or hot. Any ideas please.

ABS ECU on its way out .. there'[s a writeup in the maintenance guide all about it.

Solutions ...

New ECU from Vx - apply for a mortgage .. probably cheaper !

2nd hand ECU .. must come from the same body style (saloon/estate) and the same engine variant 2.5/3.2 etc  - price dependent on the seller/availability

Repair your ECU ... around £100 - £130 .. I used BBaReman ... excellent service .. google will find them .. there are others "ecutesting" I think is another

fiddly job but not technically difficult, just empty the swear box as getting the bolts back in is a tad tedious ......  :(

Possible a wheel speed sensor, but more likely to be the ABS ECU has failed. Can be repaired for approx. £130 by a specialist,or you could take a chance on a used one for around £30 -£50. You need to get one from a similar car to yours - same engine, gearbox, and maybe even year of manufacture.
A decent diagnostic reader can confirm the problem.

Just noticed Nige has typed faster than me,but Im not binning this as it took too long to type. ;D

If post 1998, ECU as suggested.

It will get worse. On the upside....    ....errr, nope, can't think of anything ;D

Agreed abs ecu failing - it is a diy job to swap it, but fiddly ;)
