We're all friends here, nobody will grass you up... ;D

I had a text from a police friend at Guildford on the day it happened which read "who on earth would carry out a robbery and use a Vauxhall Omega as a getaway car".
Maybe he has an idea the culprit is an OOF Member.
-
I seem to have left my car at the train station.....
-
Anybody want a diamond ring...I have a couple here going cheap ;D
-
Omega doesn't have quite the same ring to it as Mk2 Jag. :y ;D
-
I guess the Omega was never used by the police to catch scrotes then???
-
Wasn't me ;D
I would never leave my car unattended in a station car park :)
-
Mine is left unattended almost every day at a station but no interest shown. It has been parked in same spot for years.

Could have been Mr Gixer funding the V8 project ::) ;D ;D

I can't see any self respecting OOFer abandoning his Omega whatever the circumstances!!! ::)

I have for years wanted an excuse to get rid of the Omega but cannot quite find the guts to do it. It has cost little money in repairs these last 2 years and does the job. MOT beckons as does the annual service. Tempted just to try out on MOT only basis first. The car has such an amazing array of idiosyncrasies - fault lights on for months/ years - then disappear for months/years. Weird. If it passes without much aggro then will continue to keep as station/ local car.
I looked back at repair file - at 3 years old Omega had new short engine, new sat nav system and new sun roof under warranty. It failed its 3 year MOT on some minor suspension point. The file is quite fat after that but not unusual apart from new engine in 2008 due to VX problem which they recognised and fitted new one at their cost.
Phaeton file at 4 years is empty apart from service and 2 tyres and a recall on water pump (which hadn't given me any trouble). The rear tyres are still ok after 37000 miles!!
Omega is a weird car but everyone who rides in it is amazed by its smoothness and space.

Is your posh Toledo front wheel drive or four wheel drive :-\
-
4 wheel drive
-
:y Thought it was ::) would have thought they would have worn more...
Is it full time or adaptive :-\
-
I thought it was advisable to change all 4 tyres with 4 wheel drive cars.... :-\
-
Full time - no option to change
-

Dealer never suggested - I did read this as well but at least they didn't milk it for once
-
Whew . . . . no CCTV or pictures 8)
That's a relief . . . . . . . ::)

Even four 19" tyres are cheaper than the transfer box ::)
Have just read this...
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/transmissions-and-drivetrains/4motion (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/transmissions-and-drivetrains/4motion)
Which confirmed my suspicions... the system default is to only send 10% of the drive to the rear axle, so in every day driving, the rear tyres are simply keeping the back end up off the road, hence the (lack of) rear tyre wear :y

It is slightly different if you go down article to this:
"On the Phaeton, under normal conditions, the Torsen differential shares driving forces equally across front and rear axles. If it detects wheel slip, it instantly diverts as much as 20 per cent of the driving power to the axle with the better traction (max. 70:30, or 30:70). Its locking effect increases automatically along with the load. In contrast to a "speed sensing" viscous lock, it operates in "torque sensing" mode. The advantage is the lack of torsional stress when cornering, as it is designed to allow the differential rotational speeds the car automatically wants to use."
Good overview though - not read before

Cocoa, just read your omega thoughts.
I totally agree that the omega can be a pain and ive often thought about letting her go. however, mines been parked up for just over a month and with a little luck she'll be running again over next couple of weeks.
I've missed her so much :'( :'( :'(
just thought i'd pass on my thoughts to consider before you think about getting rid mate :y :y :y

It is going for mot on Tuesday - so will see what happens.
Thanks for your thoughts.
