Title: Car Heater ''Boxes''
Post by: Webby the Bear on 16 October 2013, 19:36:16
Evening gays, I mean guys. :)

I haven't done a mechanic school blog for this year... not cos I haven't wanted to but I just have a lot on.... lots of homework  ::)

however what I thought i'd do was do adhoc updates when something interesting comes up.

I love this level cos its all about testing.

got a heater box out of a car and we been testing the blower motors, resistors etc. but what id like to know is this..... what actual part is the matrix? and am I right that the following unit is known as the ''heater box''? obviously I understand that theres effectively a small radiator that heat is drawn from to the cabin. but just want to know the terms i'm using are correct. :)

the blor motor and resistor out for testing  :y

testing the resistor

ps, anyone got any stories about pulling out one of these boxes? this one wasn't so bad.... but I imagine some would be  :o :o :o ;D

Rover heater resistors are dead easy to remove. Just as well, given that its pretty much a service item on them ;D

Some cars the whole thing just unbolts from the bulkhead under the bonnet. Which is nice.  :)

looking at the positioning of the ''matrix'' in this box i'm thinking there'd be no way of pulling that out if it needed replacing. so most of the time do you have to remove the whole box just to get the matrix out?  ::)

In the Carlton/Omega A the matrix just slides in from the drivers footwell. (the clutch pedal gets in the way on a manual)

The Omega B is almost identical but the centre console is in the way  :( (but it is made of plastic so easy enough to cut a hole in if you don't fancy removing it to change the matrix ;))
