Title: Ford rationalisation?
Post by: BazaJT on 16 October 2013, 19:42:06
A mechanic[should that be technician?]friend of mine returned yesterday from one of the many courses he attends with the news that Ford are going to kill off the Ka,and won't be replacing it.So this will leave the Fiesta as Fords small?car.Apparently it's said Ford are rationalising their range and there is no room for the Ka in their plans.Could it be that they've decided to knock it on the head because it's being out sold by the Fiat 500[same car, slight styling changes and different badges]?

Glad to see it go. They're shite! Well....I only have experience if the Mark I's. But the latest Ka looks shite so that's a good enough reason to drop it

It was a total munter of a car from day one. That they sold any is testimony to the fact that there are a minority for whom cars "aren't really their thing", who will go out and buy the first thing they see with a Ford badge on it because that's what they've always done. ::)

Ka did a great job for young drivers and elderly ladies - my 78 year old aunt has a W reg Ka - both still going strong and cheap to run. If I remember correctly Ford gave free insurance on these including 17 year olds - late 90's era.

I've been driven in one. and worked on two. didn't really need to take the reigns to form an opinion. the second one I worked on (which was actually only a couple of weeks ago) was spewing oil......from virtually everywhere.

Don't get me wrong... i'm actually a ford man. we have a fusion. and touch wood its a great car.

I also like the scorpios...... even the bug eyed ones that TG always slam  ::) similar to the omega in many ways.

my first experience was my mates in 2002. it was a G reg and when I say it had all the toys..... wow..... it would put bmw's to shame! EVERYTHING was electric. and I specifically remember the comfort of the big leather seats.
it was also mahoosive! even bigger than the mig. 3.0L iirc

lovely car!!!

I had one with electric rear seats - yes all the toys - with 2 kids and large dog the Hatchback version was unbeatable for those of us who did not want a clumpy looking estate.

The saloon always looked smart...

Had three, two dark grey, one dark blue. The K reg Cosworth Scorpio saloon in graphite that I had gives the Omega a good run in the 'Best car I ever had' list 8)

Maybe they will bring back the scorpio or similar large car, I had 2 grandads a 92 2ltr twin cam ghia and one of the very last 2.9 IA scorpio's before the frog eye, it had everything even the 2ltr was a quick car for the size.  :)

The KA wont be a great loss, the Mk1 was a pig awful car where bits fell off in your hand and the engines rattled straight off the end of the production line.

I believe Ford thought that the Mundane was able enough to fill the space that the out going Scorpio left

........ that was according to a lad from across the road that worked for a Ford dealership at the time the Scorpio was killed off  :-\

Turbo technics did a twin turbo kit for the 2.9 and it gave it 340 horses.  8) :o :)

Agreed, the only reason they canned the Fugly Frog was that they couldn't sell any.

And there is only one reason that they didn't sell... our beloved Omega, which is the car Ford should have replaced the Mk3 Granada with ::)

A touch ironic really, as in the end the Omega replaced it anyway :-\

Not sure about the 2.9, but certainly, the 2.3 and 2.8 Cologne lumps could also be stroked to 3.7 litres without drama 8)

Dad had an Ash Black R reg 2.3 Ultima estate for a spell. The seats were nicer than the earlier ones, but the dash was hideous, and quite cluttered compared to the Granada  :-\ he was about to get the body work done when the heater matrix burst over his leg on the A11. On those it really is a dash out job, the guesstimate for fixing it was near twice the body work one, so he scrapped it :-\

A mate of mine has a couple of Ultima V6s. Both of them have the wiring loom to the auto box running down the Vee of the engine and over the top of the gearbox. On both of them, the insulation in this section of loom has crumbled away. Engine+box out and lots of soldering to graft in a replacement section of loom. ::)

The XR4x4 was a tail happy as an over excited spaniel when booted out of greasy side roads :D

The Granadas were as easy to slide wgen provoked, but a bit wallowy ::) the notable exception being the Cosworth, which had much better body control :y

Had mine lasted more than 3 months :-[ I would have swapped the slush box for the 4x4 running gear...

195bhp and four wheel drive :)
