Title: New Windscreen
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 17 October 2013, 09:58:03
I need a new windscreen for The Merc as it's got a big old crack in it!  :(

I've been quoted £108 fitted or if I do it through my insurance it's a £65 excess.  They say that windscreen claims have no impact on the NCB or future premiums.  :-\

Is this true? Do you have to declare the windscreen claim for future insurance quotes?  :-\

I was questioned one year when I was doing insurance quotes about a 'claim' I'd had. I'd no idea what she was talking about, but she then said you had a claim on such & such a date ........... still no idea what she was referring to. Your new screen was a claim she said even though it had no impact on the premium. Insurance companies are pedantic buggers & a law to them selves.

That's my point entirely Andy!  ;)

They say it dosn't affect your premium, but for an extra £40 I can get it done and not involve the insurance company.  :-\

Maybe I'm being a bit over cynical!  ::)

Why pay the extra for windscreen cover if your not going to use it  :y

Windscreen cover is usually standard, no extra charge.

Hmmm just booked my windscreen replacement with Autoglass via the insurance company.

It turns out that a windscreen repair has no effect on your NCB, but in the event of a replacement they freeze the NCB regardless of whether your NCB is protected or not!  ::)

In my case it will make little difference as I have maximum NCB, but for those with a small NCB it might be worth paying for a new windscreen yourself.  :-\

Different insurance companies might have different rules, this what mine do.  So it's worth checking, as changing a windscreen via your insurance company might not be the best option for you!  ;)

Just wondering, Say you want to replace a windscreen on a Elite (without rain sensors) Do they remove and re-fit your windscreen mirror for you ?

Got a few stone chips on mine  :-X ::)

I'd see if the chips can be repaired before going for replacement.  :)
