If you want to check, pop over and we'll try my obd/obdII reader .. if it works then your car is OBD . if it doesn't ....... :)

Euro cars are not ODB(1), thats purely a US standard. In fact euro cars aren't OBDII either, as thats also US. Ours are EOBD, fortunately as EOBD is heavily derived from ODBII, its mostly compatible.
No (low-ish) cost generic tool is ever likely to read a euro non EOBD car, no matter what the retard writing the Ebay bullshit ad says.

I'd hardly describe the Maxscan GS500 in those terms .. and its not let me down on any vehicle made after 1996 ... so far ..

The post 96 crap is for American market, where they were forced down the OBDII route. We were force in 2001 and 2003 (tractors).
Those protocols are just that, protocols. Entirely independenent of the language used (OBD/II/EOBD).
And the Maxscan is a low cost generic scanner

OBD/EOBD coverage is spotty on European cars until 2001 when the EOBD coverage started. Fords are good, Vauxhalls are pot luck although Astras seem to be reasonably consistent. I've been using a Maxiscan pretty much everyday for the last five years and can recommend them.
Don't buy one that doesn't do live data, and the newer ones graph it for you, which makes doing proper diagnosis much easier.

I have an Omiscan which reads live data on the '51 3.2, but does not read the TD. :(
