Title: Intermittent EML and limp mode, no diagnostic code PLEASE HELP!
Post by: daddykool32 on 25 October 2013, 21:46:19
I have a 2001 2.2 DTI CDX Manual Estate and have an issue with the car intermittently having the EML come on and the car going into limp mode not revving past around 3700RPM.

The light and limp mode often goes off by itself soon after it comes on.

I have run a diagnostic which did not show a fault, to test the machine I disconnected the MAF sensor and it picked it up as being missing so the machine works.

I though I had discovered the issue when I disconnected the hose from the air filter after a friend had a hunch, took the car for a spin and no EML came on but on doing the same trip after reconnecting it again did not come on! Later on I popped to the shop and again it came on.

Although it happens while on the move it tends to come on more often when braking to a stop and I have also noticed it tends to happen often when the car if facing downhill?

Other than this the car drives very well, it does not smoke a lot, has plenty of pull and sounds fine.

I am after selling the car soon and do not want to pass it onto the new owner with this niggling fault so any advice would be much appreciated. Shane

Sounds like cam sensor, but you need to get the codes read first.

What code reader / diagnostic tool did you use?

It may be that the tool you used only shows current codes and a more capable tool would reveal stored codes :-\

Thanks both,

The diagnostic machine I was using did have the capability to come up with stored codes but it didn't have any in the car apparently.

I will look into the Cam Sensor

Someone has suggested a sticking EGR Valve. Does this likely to anyone?

Thanks in advance

If no codes, you probably need to provoke it with the code reader plugged in. Or get a better code reader.

I see nothing to suggest cam sensor.

If you want to do something preventative, clean out all inlet, boost sensor etc
