Title: Rear Speedo and ABS Sensor

Dear All,

having problems with intermittent loss of speedo and ABS/Traction control warning lights coming on. Think this is possibly the rear near side abs sensor playing up or similar. Was looking to disconnect and clean up connections but need some advice as to where and how the plugs come apart. Can the cable be physically pulled off the back of teh sensor for cleaning or is it disconnected further back at a multi plug? Any help or tips/pictures would be of great assistance.

Electrical cleaning is at the plug away from the sensor :y

Check also that the reluctor ring and sensor head are clear of debris using a dry toothbrush, best not use any thing else incase it kills the sensor...

Nearside is a good place to start as that side of the car collects all the muck from the edge of the road, front can get covered in brake dust so disc off to check it. The rear one, although much easier to get at, is better protected as it is in the middle of the car and sheltered from wheel spray/airflow by the floor pan :y

More likely abs ecu on the way out :(

Not necessarily. I had the same symptoms and it was a dodgy rear speed sensor. ABS ECU would seem more likely,but not a certainty.
OP - The sensor is bolted to the rear of the diff by a single torx bolt.There is a cream coloured plug about 9 inches or so away from that,which is where it disconnects. Imo it needs diagnostics of some type,to ascertasin if your suspicions are corrrect,or if it is the favourite suspect with these symptoms - the ABS ECU. :y

Post 98 cars, likely to be ecu.

If you have access to a Tech2, diagnose the ecu - if no comms, or comms but no codes, that will confirm. If codes exist, follow those through.

I can recommend ScanMyOpel (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ScanMyOpel.Main&hl=en) if you have an Android phone.

£6.99 for the app and about £15 for a bluetooth OBD2 adapter and it gives me live data for engine, ABS and gearbox ECUs :y

PS the adapter I bought needed a couple of pins to be linked together before it would read ABS and gearbox.
