Hi all,
Trying to undo the 32mm part and i know its a left hand thread so Ive got my wrench on the bolt and I am turning it in a clock wise manner as I stand at the front of the car looking towards the back.
I ve turned it several times now (repositionin the wrench) and it just turns, no loosening or change.
What am I doing wrong and any tips you can give me?
Thanks
Alex

Give the wrench a tap with a persuader ;)

Don't mind me ::) was about to be daft :-[

But it just spins and spins, I can move it round but i doesn't do anything

And if that fails ... a damn good sharp clout with a lump hammer! :y

Assume that its slipping on the belt.
A sharp shock (ie, belting spanner with a mallet) sometimes helps, failing that, try wedging the waterpump still via its pulley. Be careful not to damage pulley (or shear pulley bolts if using a spanner on them to wedge)

Isn't there a nut at the back of the fan to hold like on a Senator's viscous fan? :-\

HTF are you meant to hold the viscous bit then? ??? ???

OK Ive removed the pulley bolts, 4 of them, and will try and get the fan bit off the pulley and out of the way and then hopefully remove the bolts and work on the pump but the viscous fan has slowed me down hugely

Why have you removed the 4 pulley bolts at this stage? The fan has to come off first.

You can't. BMW design, remember. The Germans cannot design anything.

The key here is to stop waterpump pulley rotating as you undo the fan's nut. The aux belt tension alone is often insufficient. Short, sharp knocks often does it, else you end up being creative with using spanners as pulley locking tools.

Sounds well thought out then! I suppose you have to use your 'fan belt' like a oil filter (canister type) strap (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAPER-43863-2-PIECE-OIL-FILTER-STRAP-WRENCH-REMOVAL-TOOL-/150985860713?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2327756669)

I volleyed one off a BMW petrol, got the fan tool standing upright and leather it clockwise, there is a tool for the petrol ones
that holds the fan still so surprised there isn't one for the wiesel engine.

OK job done, thanks very much to JamesV6CDX, great job :)
