Title: Avoid Reading
Post by: chrisgixer on 30 October 2013, 11:09:41
...until March.

Especially junction 10 of the m4 and East Reading. In fact just avoid Reading generally but especially seeing as they're repairing the viaduct over the river lodden on the 329M between the the motorway and the first junction you come to, Reading bound, of winnersh.

...actually, 329M Bracknell bound is a nightmare as well, during rush hour since they built a new housing estate and extra roundabout after the Binfield junction.

Don't know if I've ever mentioned it but, I hate Reading.

Couldn't work out wtf you were on about (nothing unusual there) until I realised you were talking about a shithole in Berkshire and not war and peace. ;D

You could have posted this yesterday  >:(

I hate Reading.  I guess Caversham Bridge is still a mare, so my route home will be A34? <sigh>

Mind you, I live in a place where everything is a journey, as even the DIY shop shuts half day on a Sat (and Wed, and obviously not open on a Sunday)

Yes out the a4 towards Newbury, jcn 12 and west

Although what time? And where from? If your at that exchange near Whitley, jcn 11 will be quicker but go out the old Basingstoke rd instead of the a33...?

But where ever you are head north west. Don't go south east. Google maps with traffic on will highlight Readring of death.

Reading Trunks. Top end of the old Basingscrote Road. So prob see if I can get the old A4 back to M4?

Although the NCDC only works when the ABS does, and TomTom is being, well, TomTom, useless bloody thing.

Yep, but its a longer route from there, so depending on time of day, its probably 50/50 between 11 and 12.

But you can bet whatever you do will be wrong.

Fixed that for you. :y

Errrrr . . . . . you're not going to believe this. I actually still have one, not in  use of course, just hiding in the bottom of a cupboard. If I wait long enough will it become a collectors item worth £££££££££   ;D Yeah right   ::)

I love Reading. Wonderful place, fantastic people (except the Omega owners  ::)), great architecture, decent quality of life . . etc etc

. . . . a customer there just also happens to be one of my very biggest in the whole of the uk   :y

In my working days, I used to have to attend the odd meeting at Microsoft in Reading.

Hated Reading then, thank goodness I never have to go there now.

Thames valley park and Microsoft being the other side of those road works. You would indeed be cursing on the journey too and from.

Haven't been to Reading since the early 90's.

I'm guessing the last time the Pikey Pensioner did any work, MS were still at Winnersh.

As I had to go the other way, due to M329 SNAFU, I actually passed my comapny's head office as I was finding somewhere to pull over to educate TomTom, and ended up in Amen Corner. Work for them for 9.5yrs, and never been to the place ;D

I flicked them the V's, and drove back along Reading's shitty roads, avoiding the motorway.

Came home via Caversham/Oxford. Slow, but fun at times. It was a pleasant afternoon, so I was chilled and happy to just cruise along :)

On the way in, no more road works on 329m :-\

Although hearing rumours of weekend work on the same stretch.
