Got in the car this morning after it standing idle for two days and it so sounded like a tractor. Missing all over the place I had to do a chore so I had no choice but to go . the car was jerking about and missing really badly. I stopped on my way back home and got petrol. the car starts fine but still rough. I have parked it up now don't really want to drive it in this state cats are expensive. Anyone any ideas.
I have just checked the plugs all fine, no oil in the wells. so not sure what to do next.

You haven't done any work recently? Possible something is disconnected - vac pipe or electrical connection (though latter may prevent it starting). Can you check for codes too?
I'm sure an expert will be along shortly but any other info you can give will help diagnosis :y

Spark, fuel or compression. Start with spark.... coil pack, leads etc :y

I have checked the plugs and leads. When you rev hard then it seems OK. so wouldn't be fuel I wouldn't think. seems like its miss firing randomly when I listen to the exhaust
This has all started quite suddenly. There has been a bit of a squeak for a few seconds on start-up for quite a while.

if youve checked plugs and leads have you also checked the coilpack? :)

I wonder if water from the scuttle has been dripping on the coil pack?
