i bought A ex police car just wanted to know a few things
some people say that there chipped and have 4 x g cams and played about inlets is this true
and what diff oil should i but in as it has a lsd ?
-
The answers depend on the car, where it came from and what it was originally used/built for...
3.0 can be chipped, but not much else... 3.2 better performer straight out of the box.
LSD might be fitted, but certainly not standard, though proportionally more plod cars had lsds fitted than MV6/Elites.
What is the reg? Someone might know more about your car :y

hi this is the one http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/w587ugw
deffo lsd fitted because it in my omega now and its brilliant just was a bit low on oil :/
-
Congratulations! :y What have you got yourself? 3.0? 3.2? Auto or manual?
I've run ex police Omegas since 2001 - they've been good to me in that time. Not noticed anything weird about the inlet manifolds and many say the chipping is a myth.
However, that said in 2002 I bought an ex TVP 3.0 direct from the force auction at WOMA and two weeks later, on an unrestricted section of autobahn four-up she went off the end of the calibrated speedo and was still pulling strongly before common sense prevailed and I backed off. I don't think a standard 3.0 would have done that and the calibrated speedo should have still been pretty accurate.
Who knows. :)

As Al says, depends which Force they came from and what they where being used for?
Ive played with a few now, and yes some 3.0 where chipped, and or Widened Throttle Bodies. some had all G Cams,Some 3.2 where re Mapped, most had LSD Diffs, 3.9 or 3.7 to suit the Box,
If you have LSD fitted use the correct Oil or Additive. ;)

it was a 3.0 and auto

Google the Reg No. (If its not been Ghosted) you may find some info or at least where it was registered and from that work out which Force it came from. ;)

That might have been down to tyre size... my last one had 205/50/16s fitted instead of 225/55/16s and seemed alot quicker :-\
Zirk is the person to ask about Met cars, might be able to shed some light on any mods... the 4G cams were fitted to the 3.0/3.2 anyway iirc, which makes the a tidy mod on the smaller V6s along with 3.2 exhaust manifolds.
Sounds like that car is in bits now, so anything done is just unfounded speculation...
Zirk, it's Met looking at the picture :y

Cant do pics at the mo as on the mobile wap site, will have a look when I get back, but guessing a 3.0 Met Auto will be 2000 year, Red or White?

I used to have five ex-police 24 valve Senators and they were pretty fast too. They would cut out at 155, which I suppose was a tyre safety measure. They too were amazing cars, and so cheap. I love wandering about the Haynes museum, looking at the top of the range cars of my youth (1940s and 1950s), Rolls Royces, Jaguars, Bentleys, Lanchesters, etc., happy in the knowledge that outside I have a car superior to all of them, and much more reliable.

White :y

Yep, its Met Traffic, W587 UGW, I recently broke W539 UGW also a 3.0 Auto (HG Fail), although that one was a Red SO6 Car (Diplomatic Protection Group), that one was Chipped, Widened Throttle, some Gas Flowing on the inlets, all G Cams and 3.9 LSD. went like stink, in fact probably one of the liveliest 3.0 Ive ever driven, untill ex 'Her in Doors' did the HG on it :'(, handled really well also with 15" steels on it.
Have a look in the back, see if there was any left over signs of a Gun Cabinet in the back, as some Traffic also double up as Armed Response Units, one clue whether its been chipped or not is to whip the ECU apart and have a look at the eprom label, standard ones still had the Silver Foil VX Label on it which covers the UV erase window, Chipped one where normally a White Paper Label with the Force's refernce code :y

lsd diff requires either pre mixed diff oil with the friction additive already in or use normal gl5 diff oil and add the gm little tube of friction additive available at all gm dealers
-
Oh thank for that zirk
so how more power would of these mod of given ?
there was screw holes all other the interior the hard leather seat were like new but the car was rotten an handle like poo the car was only bought for the engine wheels n for the diff
