Hi guys,
Well since the rebuild of the Omega I have been like a hawk watching EVERYTHING.
The temp gauge has got to between 80 celcius and 90 celcius. on way home tonight though it was getting to about 95 celcius but only at idle. once driving it went back down again. heater was on 18degrees and was in ECO mode.
I know this may not be anything to concern myself over but the cars never before got to that temp.
Is first step to verify cooling fan operation? any idea what temp they kick in at? I presume I should get it up to temp and then come home and let it idle on the drive and observe the cooling fan operation?

I think the standard is around 85 normal running, higher in traffic or idling.

thanks guys. I read that that gauge showing 95 with eco on is 'normal'? :)
ps theres 3 fans on the car.... 1 at the engine side of the rad and 2 at the bumper side..... which is the condenser and which is the cooling fan? :)

Engine side primary, switched from radiator, bumperside secondary, switched from aircon - ie aircon on = fans on :y

i'm used to one for radiator and one for condenser.
So you're saying that the one at the engine side is for the radiator. and the two at the back are for the condenser?
if so, when looking for fans to kick in it should be the one the engine side that should kick in if ECO is selected? :)

Bumperside off when Eco pressed :y
Engine side on when radiator sensor (below top hose) reaches a certain temp, and switches the relay.
When the engine gets really hot the speeds increase, making the fans louder, you can hear the difference.

To test the engine fan, switch Eco on, temp to Lo both sides (this keeps all the heat in the engine). And run the engine from cold. Had on top hose and once the thermostat opens you should then feel a gush of heat through the hose. No gush and the thermostat is toast. Once hot, leave the engine running and see what the gauge is doing. When it reaches 95° or so, the fan should kick in.
Switch the aircon on, and the temperature should drop back to 85° as the front fans kick in. If the thermostat is stuck open then the engine will struggle to get over 80°, especially in this weather as the front fans run constantly when the aircon is on.

My 2.5 V6 Pre face lift CDX (V plate). Seems to sit just over the first mark on the temp guage after 90 degrees. This i think is about approx 93 deg as there are 4 marks between 90 and 100 ;) ). I always have climate control on and it has sat at this temp /position ever since I have as the car (from 6 months new :y. It seems to run just over 95 berfore thermostat opens then then settles bang on the 93 rock solid. 8)

Try running on ECO. See how the temp varies at idle then.... (just out of interest :))

Will do as out tomorrow in the old girl - probably be the 2nd time the Eco button would ever have been pressed then ;D. I can feel an extra 1 mpg already :D

Hi guys.
EXCELLENT news :) drove car for ages today on ECO. During driving (all 30-40mph) the gauge sat around 85. Then at idle went to just above 90. I then brought it home and observed what was happening at idle on ECO and what was happening with the fans.....
first of all top hose was hot so the stat is definitely opening :)
secondly the fan ca,e on when the temp gauge got to about 93...then it dropped to around 90 :y
the only odd thig was that even with ECO on all fans were running. but as said its not over heating or anything so that's excellent :)
