Title: safe mode
Post by: ronomega on 09 November 2013, 14:46:52
Hi all, my radio has just gone to safe mode, i did not have flat battery. I put code in and has just gone back to safe mode. When i press the AS button and hold it then knock radio on i do not get any beep. It just seems to be stuck on safe mode, any ideas please.

i put correct code in three times and its says 07 code
I know its 7 attempts left, but i read on here you have to leave your keys and ignition on for two hours. Is that the correct procedure?

Radio OFF
Ignition ON
Radio on whilst pressing AS button then you should hear the "beep".
Ignition must be left on until display shows "CODE"

I have done that mate and it will not beep.

Clearly the code you are entering is incorrect. Absolutely no point whatsoever is attempting that code again ;)

it will not let me put a code in lad, i used the code before when i changed battery. I cant get it to beep to allow me entering a code,

So why is counter down to 7  :-\

Anyway, the key point is that ign needs to be on, and radio needs to start off -  turning the ign on whilst holding AS won't work.

If you are in a countdown wait, ign needs to be left on until timer has finished.

Are you actually entering the code? Or is it aborting part way through? Its not clear from your posts above.

If you are actually getting to the point of entering the code, and then pressing AS again, then the code you have is WRONG and no point trying again.

Either your radio is faulty or you didn't put the correct code in.

You wouldn't be the first person to type in the ECU security code instead of the radio code (I have more than once ::))

It will not let me enter a code now, i cant get of safe mode.

But did it previously?

At 7 attempts remaining, you are in a countdown, and ign must be left on continuously until timer expires. But do NOT enter the same code again, clearly its WRONG!

Should have two codes on the carpass. When display shows "CODE", enter the one you haven`t tried if unsure of the initial code you inputted

If its gone into safe it can take a good while to allow you to enter code again . I went for a drive for an hour and then it let me enter code  :y

Op says he has followed RobG's  instruction above  & cannot get set to "beep" with the AS button

2 possibles IMO . . . set is in SAFE mode after several attempts to enter code & will take quite a while to allow the next attempt

Or   set is fubared as this did not occur from the battery being disconnected or flattened

Suggest leave it overnight before you try again  IMO  :-\

Ignition & radio on until display shows "CODE" (up to 2 hours), then enter correct code and press "AS" button. Decent battery will sustain that, if unsure whack a charger on it

I have left ignition on for 2 hours and it is still on safe mode, i assume my radio is broke,

It can be up to 12hrs, depending how many attempts have been made.

My guess is that you have a faulty or corrupted eeprom in the head unit preventing it from accepting any codes...i seem to remember my CCR2006 was stuck in safe mode. The eeprom is on a small vertical daughter board which plugs into the mother board of the head unit, replacing it with one from another unit and using that units code would prove the point and get the radio working again if it was indeed an eeprom fault.

Thats a different error, that says CDC SAFE

7 SAFE means three wrong atempts of a code

You may think you are entering the right code, but I can promise you are not.

Unfortunately 7 SAFE means up to two hours with the ignition and radio switched on, this must be continuous, and yes it is a battery killer if you are not going for a drive - thats the penalty for incorrect code useage

If all else fails after that, send it to me

Hi, my code appeared today but i did not leave ignition on, I turned key back to normal and left it on safe mode for 10 mins (no ignition lights on) and hey presto. Cheers all for the help. :y

To save any further hassle. Now radio is working, if you go through the motions of inputting the code again, once you hear the final "beep" the "code request" will be disabled

They can seem to have a mind of their own - on one of our old ones after battery discharged, radio would not accept correct code, 3 attempts.  Next day code input came straight up on turning ignition on and same code accepted first time.  Not really logical ???
