Fitted a new cd/radio today . Everything works accept cant get any signal to the radio :( There is a red wire coming off the Arial wire and dont have a clue what this is for . Worse case scenario would be to fit a new arial lead and arial but dont really want to be doing that .
Any idea . Car is 1998 p/f 3.0 MV6 .
TIA

IIRC it`s the switched feed for aerial amplifier
-
Yeah, if it comes off pin 7, its the remote switch on for the aerial amp.
-
Tried it connected to switch live, was nothing :o
The wire was part of the aerial lead and a new connector for aerial was also fitted to the original wire already
-
Is the replacement HU a GM one? If not, is the pinout the same (unlikely)?
-
Sony hu iso connectors are ok

He had an Alpine h/u fitted to the car i bought then he took the Alpine h/u out before i went and picked it up . I bought a brand new Sony h/u and fitted that today . Now there is no radio signal :y

I bet he was pleased. Use to a Sony, then was able to listen to an Alpine. And to top it all, some mug bought his Sony ;D

Lol,i only fit jvc or pioneer in my own cars lol ;D

Looks like it will be aftermarket arial fitment then . Or i can take it back for full refund and get a different h/u :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Can whip 1 out of my cars and see what happens :y

Ok mate :y
I dont see what the issue is with using aftermarket h/units though . I can easily swop it for a brand new Alpine unit but what difference is that going to make :-\ :-\
-
The issue is that you need to find which pin your new HU uses for 'Antenna' or 'Ant' so it can power up the aerial amplifier.
The basic ISO connectors (speakers & power) don't vary much from manufacturer to manufacturer (except that VX swap the switched feed ::))

Ok Andy thanks . So it could be possible that a different aftermarket head unit would indeed work . May just be the physical connections .

Ive got a spare loom to try from a different h/u will see what that does .

Hmm, swapping random parts. The chances of it miraculously having the correct wiring are close to zero.
How about you tell us what model HU so we can check the pin outs?
-
Sony CDX-GT270MP :y

Pin 5 according to the Sony guide http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/4426949211.pdf (http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/4426949211.pdf)

Ok andy thanks , will give it a go and report back tomorrow :y
-
Sony has been taken out and took back to the shop for a refund :D
-
The adaptor lead would have cost less than the fuel and buggering about time had you bought one with the radio...
Would/should have been plug and play ::)

That's why Autoleads sell adaptor looms ::)

The adapter loom was nearly as dear as the h/u ::)

£10-15 :-\

Not where i was looking , £30 :(

TBH, as Sony HUs are unbelievably crap, crappier than a crap crap, you've done the right think. A Goodmans would be a better choice ;D
But you'll be unlikely to find a non factory fit radio that will just plug in.
Rather than bodge and shag the car's loom, always use an adapter, and make the modifications on the adpater.
-
I didnt realize Sony was crapier than crap ;D
Anyhoo hoping to get sc804 with 6 disc boot changer :)
