Well I was quite amazed. Did 2 runs from stoke to Birmingham airport. Reset trip and averaged 58.9 mpg over 180 odd miles
The car, a 2011 bmw 520d f10.
Still showing nearly 160 miles of range with half of a quarter tank left.

My v6 is currently showing 30.2 mpg after a few dual carriageway runs which I suppose I can't grumble at but i was impressed with the bmws economy. That was a steady 80 and some town work.

Yep, they give excellent mpg for a large motor. Seen the range clear seven hundred on a fill up plenty of times. :y
-
I have an 08 plate 520d and its currently showing 44.7 mpg just pottering around town. Double what my MV6 gave me.
-
Pretty damned good.. I get about 24mpg on a run in the 3.2 ;D it would be nice to see 700+ out of a tank in something!
-
520d is a heavy turbo car.. those values reflect only half of the picture.. let the admin drive it, I bet he can see single digits with it ;D
-
No doubt that is good, however at least with the Omegas there is zero depreciation. It costs a shed load of fuel, but as they are worth peanuts. They save money in other areas :)

a bimmer diesel pump or turbo or a zf box will cost several miggies ::)

As does fixing the timing chain on small BMW diesels.
A couple of serious faults will easily wipe out any fuel economy savings.

We do the Cornwall run several times a year and the distance from my house to the place we rent is 265 miles. Due to my father being ill at the time I had to return home the next day. I had brimmed the tank before leaving but was still pleasantly surprised to get to Cornwall , return home, then return to Cornwall and then return home on one tank of diesel.
Admittedly this does not represent true average mpg as my route was all main roads, A40, A34, M4, M5 and A30. I was not hanging about but was still shocked at the mpg. I was well impressed. :y
The range was in double figures when I got home but the mpg equates to what Dan posted in the first post. :y
And yes, that does add up to 1060 miles. :o :o

1000 miles from a tank!? That's impressive.. I managed Bracknell to Gorran Haven on just a shade under a full tank a couple of weeks ago and considered that good going ;D

I frequently go to Hayle/St Ives. I often have to stop on the way for fuel ::)

The beauty of it being a company vehicle I suppose but certainly a daunting thought for a few years time once it's done some miles.

We used to go to St Ives holiday park in Hayle with the Omega so I know what you mean. I couldn't get there in one hit either. ;D

Incidentally the two of you getting intergalactic miles out of your BMW's - are they manual or auto?

So there can't be much in it. :)

I find the new 8 speed auto box always manages more than I can get from a 6 speed manual BMW.
-
A manual 3.2 will get from mine in deepest darkest West Sussex to Potter Heigham in deepest darkest Narfik and back on a single tank, about 420 miles 8)
Around town with a dead thermostat, I have been struggling to get anywhere near 300 :'(
-
I keep telling myself it would be insanity to buy a new car just to get better mpg.. but I do fancy a trip to BMW for a test drive or two :-[
I know, I know.. you'll all disown me .. ;D
