Lights not bloody working. ::)
Bulbs blew one then the other. New bulbs are different. Same shape, same fitting, same figures on the side, but they are an "Eco halogen" variant. Can't get the old ones. Sigh...
Old bulbs filaments "look" intact but don't show a current with a metre :-\
Is it the new bulbs incompatible or the hood faulty? Hood light button lights up red but light don't come on.
The position of the light fitting is right at the back behind the fan and its a real shister to get off the wall. So getting in there with a meter is almost impossible.... And she wanted to cook tea so it will have to wait until tomorrow now.
Any pointers mean time?

...after the shite you just posted? ;D

I bought a pair of ordinary cooker hood bulbs in ASDA recently. :)
-
Really? :o
-
Forget the "eco" bit, they are only "eco" because they are rated at a slightly lower wattage than the standard lamp.
Do I take it from your post that the new lamps fail to work when plugged in?
-
Like these?

Can't find an Asda link.

If the lamps are getting their feed from that control unit (which they probably do), my first suspicion would be the controller has failed.
PS
Does the fan still work?

Yes everything works as it should. Fans work on all three speeds and the timer works to turn them off if selected.
Press the lights button and the red light confirms lights selected, same as the fans red lights do. Just the light bulbs don't actually come on.

And the lamps blew one after the other rather than simultaneously?

The original ones did yes. One was blown for ages. Then when the second one went, I bought these new Eco halogen bulbs as B+Q or Focus didn't have anything else. Neither of the new ones work now.

I'd start by checking the new lamps for continuity, it's unlikely that you have 2 defective lamps straight out of the box but not impossible.
If the continuity check reads good, then the next step is to check that you have 230v at the actual lampholders.
Be very careful with the meter probes when doing this as it is quite easy to inadvertently short the terminals which will result in a loud bang accompanied with a flash of blinding light which will probably scare the crap out of you if you aren't used to things going bang.
Also keep your pinkies well away from the meter probes when testing the lampholders as you have no RCD protection and it is quite easy to kill yourself if you take your eye off the ball.

No the ones I got were the old fashioned filament type like in the Maplins link. ;)

I shouldn't have said that actually. Those are the bulbs I have now. I don't know of they work or not, yet. It might be the hood at fault. :y

Yes I was a bit concerned. The lamp holders are a shit to get at.
-
Plus there the risk of dropping something on the glass topped hob. I'll need to cover that up first.
One for tomorrow.
I presume the Eco halogens are supposed to be a direct swap for the old style ones.

Hmmm. Not likely to be the bulbs then. :( iirc I read they have a starter within, so to speak. So would they give a normal reading from a meter?
When pressing the lights button, there is a click. Like a relay switching. It still clicks.

You're not wrong!! ::) It'll rival 'The Bus Thread' soon! :o ;D

We'll. it WAS giving about power. Until it went bang. ;D
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p326/chrisgixer/null_zps8b4d67cd.jpg)
In the process of twisting the light holder round to get a meter on it, and bang. Internals all melted. It's shorted out internally.
But I'm fine, thanks for asking. ::) ;D

Looks like it is time for a new cooker hood, which will make the rest of the kitchen look old, so you might as well cut to the chase and replace the whole lot with new decor. ::) :P ;D ;D
PS: It might even fix your faulty plumbing so your kitchen tap works when you turn it on rather than having to turn on the cloakroom tap to do that. :o :o :o :o

Not aloud to talk about the plumbing, Esta doesn't like it. The stroppy tart. ::)
The hood replacement part cost £2.99. Plus £7.00 shipping. (Sigh...)
