Title: I need fault code read locally please - anyone out there?..any advice?
Post by: JDX on 13 November 2013, 13:32:10
Hi all, I am fishing around in the dark really trying to solve an eml light and loss of power problem ('02 2.2dti CDX est.)
The car has only now done 71k from new. As stated in previous post, I have removed the maf sensor and properly cleaned it, I have checked all the vacuum pipes for splits or bad connections, new air filter. I am located North Essex, any suggestions where I should take it for the fault codes, avoiding main dealers? What should I look at next? Thank you.

Clean out the entire intake.

Original post reads very much like the issues I had with mine.

Never did resolve the issue despite lots of part swapping before the fuel pump died.

Seemed to do it occasionally when hot after driving a constant speed then lifting your foot off the throttle.

OK, I will clean it out tomorrow, thanks for the reply.
It happens most frequently on idle. If I turn the ignition off, wait a few seconds, start her up and it clears - then
next junction I stop and it comes on again and no power. Is that fuel pump?

You'll need the gaskets and plenty of paint stripper if you want to clean the inlet manifold. It's a lovely job  ::)

Hey ho - I have to solve it - it's gotta be fixed..... I have not signed up to this throwaway society just yet!
I was just reading a post of yours about the crank sensor - is that a possibility?

Crank sensor failure on a DTi will mean your rev counter drops to zero and the car goes into limp mode.

Have you whipped the EGR off and tested and cleaned it? Only two bolts and a vac pipe to remove.

Also worth checking the big rubber elbow that connects the primary vac line to the vac pump on the back of the head.

As youknow JD,Im only round the corner. I tried helping you diagnose a problem (the same one ?) quite a while back, but my code reader doesn't work now ,so I cant even diagnose my own problems now Im afraid.
I saw your car the other day and it looked like the drivers side has taking a bit of a battering ?  :(

How do I know if it's limp mode? Limp mode I imagine is how it drives when the light is on but the rev counter does not drop to zero.
I removed the egr this afternoon - cleaned it and it seemed OK  (I'm assuming that if it goes in and out that is OK) and
I also checked the vac pipes for splits or lose connections. Is it necessary to actually remove the connectors to see if they're sound?....

Not Crank sensor fault then.

Need to check it holds the plunger in when you have a vacuum applied

I also checked the vac pipes for splits or lose connections. Is it necessary to actually remove the connectors to see if they're sound?....

Try bending them straight - against the natural 90 degree form and look for cracks.

only just seen this post sorry !! if you are going to clean out the inlet manifold both upper and lower parts need cleaning, you will need both gaskets and have to take injector pipes off to get manifold off, the rubber U bend pipe that fits on the vac pump is the normal one that goes as VXL V6 has said, as it is at the back of the engine it gets hot and the rubber cracks, the lower part of the manifold has butterfly valves in it and you will wonder were all the carbon has come from. I try to do mine every two years (20,000 miles) and the car will run a lot better after you have done it. You will not get any codes up to tell you about this. :y
