It's something I've always thought about. With certain vehicles costing a lot to tax (such as the omega) would it be a good idea to offer a 3 month tax option. Admitted if you keep renewing every 3 months it would be slightly more expensive over the year but to allow for everyone's circumstances I think it's a good idea.
I suppose 3 months rfl on the omega would be priced around £80-85 if this was available. ( for a v6)

Why would dvla want to do that when they can screw you for six months minimum? I think it's more likely that they will change it to twelve months or nowt. Then you can fight for your money back if you don't use it.

If the DVLA/and .gov were that altruistic, or even if they were interested in a FAIR tax on vehicles, they'd stop the tax disk altogether, slap an extra 10p/l on fuel and be done with it.

Omegas are relatively cheap to tax compared with for example a R320 ::) ::) ;)

The older farts amongst us will remember that road tax used be available for 4 months at a time, it was reduced to 6 months or 12 months years ago to help reduce admin costs at Swansea :y

Not being too much of an old fart I didn't realise that. Surprised that just losing the 4 month tax discs could relieve a lot of admin cost but what do I know. ;D

They've been doing that for years, it's just that they forgot to scrap the Tax Disc! ::)

I think that the reasons for keeping RFL are waning fast. It was there as a money spinner initially and then it was used as a way of making sure you had the mot and insurance but with anpr so prevalent now I think they should stick more on fuel duty and have away with it.

It's now important as a stick to batter people with when they have the audacity to buy a car with a bit of performance - even if they do very few miles in it. >:(

True, but surely they get more revenue per mile from fuel duty than from the RFL :-\
