Yep, very painful, I have one of those belts from Boots which I use when mine goes, works well. Once mine gets better, I try to do the old toe-touching every morning which seems to keep it at bay - until I forget again :-[ :-[ :-[

I've never had surgery or had other than self-treatment, I don't want anyone messing with my back. A good physio should sort you out. Generally the disc will have bruised the nerve, and unless the disc has actually moved out of line, the bruised nerve and therefore pain will slowly improve over a week or so. However I am not a medic so get medical advice anyway. :y

Oh yes had that happen to me just be careful who you have messing with your back as they can do real damage, it used to be lay on a board in bed for 2 weeks now they say keep moving and do exercises to help heal but take it easy as shackeng says see your Dr and he will either send you to a physio or tell you what to do.  :y

I had a similar experience when swmbo was 8 months pregnant. Pain got so bad that one morning I literally couldn't get out of bed. She ended up having to pull my 17 stone frame outa bed because I was bursting on a pee. Must've took me 15 mins to walk from bedroom to bathroom. Never felt a pain like it.
Evetually went to hospital at midnight, they said  I hadn't slipped a disc, was probably a trapped nerve, they gave me fluxocillan and co-codomine.
They did advise that while taking the tablets the pain would ease and I may think I'm ok to do the usual bending ect, but could do more damage. So be careful .

If it is minor, it will go back on its own - apply cold NOT heat as you want to reduce inflammation.

Best idea is to go to a Chiropractor or if that is not an option a Physio - Physio will massage only, Chiropractor will manipulate when it is safe to do.

If you do any exercise that causes pain - STOP!

What I was just about to say

I also had acupuncture to help with the muscle damage caused by the spasms - which is what the pain probably is

thanks for the info boys.

just had to go and try and have some kip as i didnt get any sleep at all last night as it was shooting pain all the time.

yep. took me 15 minutes also to get from bed to bog.....and whilst in there i was stupidly supporting myself with the towel rail which subsequently broke and i was screaming. ma, pa and g/f thought i was killing someone  :'(

i can report however that it has eased right up thank god. ive had ice on it all day and i been walking at regular intervals. but i wonder if from this point on i'm in for a loada back pain or if it was a one off. i hope the latter as this aint funny.... even when i'm laughing it causes more pain  ;D ::)

Are you sure? Ive had quite a few slipped disks.....the physio i used to visit used to pop the disk back in, after applying heat to the area and was bloody painful when he did it.

Since then ive used an Osteopath who just massages after applying heat.

Now i use my own method....go see Dr, who will quite happily prescribe 'industrial strength' painkillers (5x the strength, that you can buy over the counter, co-codamol's) and pop the pills until it goes away.

I slipped a disk a week last wednesday and it was pressing on my sciatic nerve, which meant a shooting pain in my left leg and was impossible to press the clutch without much pain and used to limp about when walking. But 4 painkillers a day made it possible to keep working  :)
Today, however i think im on the way to mending, the pain in my leg is less and is nearer the bottom of my leg now (always a good sign  :) ) and i havent taken any painkillers either and have been out in the car without much discomfort  :y

My Docs advise was take the painkillers to move about in less pain, but keep moving about.
The 'old' advice of lying still on your back is now incorrect, as this can lead to DVT's  :y

HTH......but go see your doc and get some painkillers  :)

thanks taxi. as said it feels a lot better. the 111 nurse tokd me to take a mix of paracetamol and nurofen and an ice pack. all of this has really helped. but of course it could be the pills making me feel ok. if it dont significantly clear up by tuesday night ill take the day off school and walk to the docs  :y

I can definitely recommend the support belt, I have one similar to this, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fitness-Gear-Medium-support-lumbar/dp/B007Q01Z4M/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1384720101&sr=8-6&keywords=lumbar+support+belts, and I add sponge padding to act on the required disc area. :y

Yep, I'm sure... my brother is a Chiropractor.  But of course there are some that will do more than the job spec as it were.  My Physio was at great pains to inform me that I could not expect manipulation, that is not how they work.  but I have heard that some do.  Osteopaths are not Doctors, or for that matter regulated, so you are relying on luck that you will get a good and properly trained one.

Ah righto, stand corrected  :y The one i visited must go the extra ( he's actually the one the football club use) . I knew osteopaths arent regulated, but he was recommended to me  :y

But I use my method now, painkillers and wait to see if it gets better on its own......which this time its seems to be  :y
