bought a litre of high commissioner at bargain booze and it tastes minging there is a horrid plasticcy after taste so I took it back today and said im not bothered about a refund and I don't want a replacement but will pay the difference and get bells or grouse, ive been told to go back tomorrow cos the boss wants to see the bottle and my receipt(even though ive showed it to the girl who was working and she had to ring him).now all being well he will swap it but if he doesn't am I in my rights to take back an opened bottle with some missing and get a refund/swap or the upgrade like ive offered :-\

Sounds like it may not be the genuine article, Mr Herc. :'( :'(
-
that's what im thinking but I don't want to insinuate hes selling dodgy liquor until ive given him chance to swap it

Plenty of fake malts about, and plenty of small outlets willing to buy them. :-\

Fake Britain had a show couple of weeks back about fake spirits. Maybe mention you had seen the programme, if he is selling fake stuff I'm sure he'll be only too glad not to make a fuss and accept your proposal to pay the odds for a good bottle

Use this linky

And roll the mouse over the piccy of the bottle and compare the labels carefully to check for differences......there usually is a difference with a 'hooky' bottle ;)

I thought about this a while ago as Tesco had a offer on saying that there own brand booze was as good as the premium brand.was thinking of buying a bottle having a taste and takeing back and saying it was rubbish and getting my money back.dont know if it would have worked!

High Commissioner is not exactly high end whisky to start with. It's the cheapest of cheap blends and, in my experience, the only way to change it from 'rough as a badgers arse' to 'barely paletable' is to keep it in the fridge till it's well chilled and serve with an ice cube chaser.
Good luck exchanging it though. There is a fair amount of guff booze floating about apparently.

Tesco own malt is actually surprisingly good and has fooled many an 'expert' in blind tasting.
And many an oofer at the meets I've been at..... ;)

No doubt they would have refunded you but what would you have gained? A sip from a bottle. Hardly worth the effort, esp. if it was an acceptable brew.

Probably not.....as a distillery that made one of the premium brands, probably made Tesco's own brand...i just had a look at a bottle of Tesco's 'everyday' bottle of gin i had here (for my sloe gin :y ) .....theres no clue on the label to the distillery, just says produced and bottled for Tesco.

I, along with a couple of friends, got absolutely w**kered on this stuff as a teenager. So bad did I feel that I can still vividly recall the date........23rd December 1975. I was fifteen. :-\ :-\ :-\ :D :D :D

I'll warrant you can still taste it ;D
