The better half has dropped her 6 month old Galaxy S4 and cracked the digitiser screen. Now I dont fancy buying a new one, so are there any reputable screen replacement companies around that you recommend? Personal experience would help. Not keen on DIY, due to a lack of time and not wanting to break it further.

Thought most Networks do there own repairs now for a fixed price, might be worth asking, ;)

Not a network phone. I just bought it when we were on holiday in Dubai.

I think my friend took his to carphone warehouse, I think he paid about £160ish.

Yeah, CPW are £170 and warranted. But I have an intense dislike of CPW, Talktalk and anything that guy(whatshisname) starts up. Will have a look at home insurance, although it may only cover laptops and my cycles.

It's not £500 to repair ;)
Excess + a claim come renew, often will cost you more. Far cheaper to fix by local indie :)

TOP TIP: If you are an uninsured driver and have a prang, simply drive home, insure your car and wait a week or two to claim. :y

Where you are in London, look up independent repairers and then check to see if they have any reviews or if anybody you know has used them or a repairer that is manufacturer accredited.
Don't commit fraud by using the suggestion above on taking out insurance ex-post. Gadget and phone insurers are well aware of this ploy which is why most now have a 14 day uninsured period from when you first take out insurance. If you submit a claim on day 15, they have ways of detecting possible fraud. :-X You could end up having have a lot of explaining to do and end up on an insurance fraud database or worse. How do I know? I do a lot of development work for an insurance company which includes gadget insurance.

If you are handy with a small screwdriver & pair of tweezers they're fiddly but easy to replace. About £60 ish to buy and there are plenty YouTube guides. I cracked my HTC one a while ago & thought sod it ill fix it meself, can't make it any worse. As i said its fiddly more than anything.

PLEASE NOTE! I did not for one second suggest taking out insurance after the fact. This was a response to a question of would it be worth claiming in the first place!! >:(

You're on for the whole assembly if you've damaged the digitiser, circa £160 for the genuine article.

DIY repair is easy .. just done the daughters S3 mini ... utube has "howtos'" on most ..

The S3 mini is a lot easier due to the glass, digitiser, and LCD not being bonded together as they are on the S4.
