Replaced the batteries in our two ageing 3rd generation iPods. Bloody awkward first time, broke the tools supplied with the battery, but now sussed it so the second one was easy enough. This with a view to retrieving the music off it. Cd's mostly, as the things wouldn't hold charge to operate when plugged into a pc.
Anyway all working fine, grab the charger lead to plug into the netbook. Damn, its a poxy FireWire plug >:(
Didn't think that through did I. ;D ....sigh....
Especially when considering apple refuse to allow transfer of non paid music to a third part computer, as her lappy was unavailable at the time (kindly being serviced by Aaron) so, that leads to other plans, like a third party app to at least get the music off my iPhone 4. Nope, not for free anyway. First app promised unlimited free use, but there's a 250 track limit POP UP. AAAAAH

You're better off buying those silver 1980's CDs. At least you can listen to them without asking the ghost of Jobs for permission. ::)

You also physically own them, whereas downloads you just get to use them on a 3rd parties terms. :(

Yes we have the cd's of course, and these tracks where loaded on the desc top more than 10 years ago. iTunes is completely different now. It allows up to 5 computers access, but only on purchases from the App Store.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what cloud services are for, no? Therefore it matters not about plugging into iTunes. As iCloud covers purchase and iTunes still won't accept non paid tracks.
Therefore opening up third parties to charge for what iTunes should do and risk downloading a load of spyware and got knows what else.
Its my music, my ipod, my pc. Yet Apples says no!
Think I shall leave this until she gets her lap top sorted. No point going though this pain twice.
Mean time, anyone got a link to suitable, preferably free, software that can consolidate all tracks from an ipod third gen and iphone4 onto one iTunes account...?

I've got software (Windows based) that will let you transfer whatever you want from your iDevice, PM me if you want to know what it's called ;)

On an old iPod (classic, photo etc) you can just stick it into disk mode and copy the files off, too.. (then import them into iTunes to rearrange and rename them back to something sensible, admittely.. software removes that step)

Theres a free Sony Ericsson PC App on the web, that allows you to Download your iPhone/Pod music to your PC prior to uploading it to your SE Phone, of course once you have the music on your PC guessing its up to you what you do with it.
Cant remember the name of the App now, but fairly sure Ive posted it before on one of Tunnies threads.
