Can somebody confirm that most of the exhaust noise is cancelled out by the middle boxes and not the rear box.
-
It's still very loud without back box, when the pipes from centre to back box fails, the noise is considerable.
-
I would say there's a low burble without the back box (or with the pipes rotted through and no longer connected to it) ::). Audible but not overly unpleasant.
The centre boxes take away all the annoying resonances and rasping. With sub-standard centre boxes the exhaust can be quite unpleasant. (my previous eternal exhaust had the single skinned ones, current ones are double skinned)

Quite throaty when the seam blows out ;D

Ok not that straight forward then, At the moment I have ets middle boxes and eternal 3ltr rear box all replaced last year but its bloody loud when you floor the peddle on the right. Its also loud when ticking over so much so people keep asking if I have a sports exhaust on it. :'(
Do I need to go to vauxhall then to get a quite one :'(

No. They stopped making double walled ones years ago. Double check the brackets clamping centre pipes, into the back box are tight. They worked loose on the 3.2, causing fair bit of 'droaning' once tightened again, noise was considerably reduced :)

Also how would I know if double skinned or not..

I wouldn't say "very loud" but it's got more of a note, If cruising its not much different imo. Foot down then it's noticeable in a nice way. If living in an urban area maybe not for you, But for me being rural it's fine :y
Mine only has like a little round rear silancer rather than x2 box shaped ones, Doesn't really have a back box, Just a tail end. As you can hear it ain't too loud. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyimMOMPVcY and acceleration sound https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sx7Bm4hZRA
I've been told before i'ts probably costing me some bhp and 0-60 peformance, But if it ain't broke don't fix it. Especially when you can't afford too ;D
