Title: For the beer drinkers ...
Post by: Seth on 03 December 2013, 23:37:14
A few on here (especially those who accompany me/us to the Welland Steam Rally) will no doubt confirm my partiality to a good few glasses of:

of an evening ... until some blinding headaches (the following morning) forced a switch to this very agreeable ale:

However, I've just sampled half a gallon of:

As the bottle says: "Gloriously Peachy" ... My verdict: Absolutely bloomin' lovely! :y
Anyone else tried it? ... Badger 'Golden Glory' ... that is! 8)

Yep, not a bad pint, more suited to a warm day at Welland / Newent than the run up to Christmas, though, IMHO.

This time of year demands a bit more body, which is why I've just brewed a clone of this:

Might be a little problematical ascertaining 'magnetic north' on the compass though ... can't seem to be able to focus ... err clearly ... for some reason ...  ::)

Can't even see the leddar ... etheir ...  :-[

It does seem such a shame to pour failed home brew batches down the drain, after all. :-X

Temporarily separated from the recipe book, but here is what I had in my notes:

Half a camden tablet in the liquor.

4230g Maris Otter Pale Malt
670g Brown Malt
560g Crystal Malt
110g Chocolate Malt
Mashed for 90 mins at 68 Deg. C

90 min boil
64g Fuggles 4.6% AA @ 90 min
21g Fuggles 4.6% AA @ 10 min
1 tsp Irish moss @ 10 min

Makes 23L @ 1053 OG IIRC.
FG was about 1016

Fermented @ 20 deg. C. I used S04 yeast
I recently tasted a porter that had been brewed with one of the Malt Miller's own brand dry yeasts, though and it was very good. Will find out which yeast it was. :y

I dry hopped it with 20g Fuggles for a few days before bottling. Cracked open a test bottle at the weekend after 1 week conditioning and it needs a little longer in the bottle but it's certainly shaping up well.  :D

Mmm. Yep, that's a very nice pint. Often consumed in large quantities when I do my annual pilgrimage to Kent for a radio contest. Goes down very well after spending the afternoon putting up antennas. :y
