Have always owned in the past Omega Estates. This 2.6cd is the first saloon I have bought.
May sound crazy but I've just realised that it has no rear wiper. When the car is standing still the water just sits on the back screen, making reversing difficult.
What was Vauxhall thinking of omitting a rear wiper off a £20,000 car when new. Seems crazy to me.
Anyone else noticed this problem?

I've never owned a saloon car or estate that didn't have a rear wiper.
You'd have to go back to the 1970's for saloons not to have a rear wiper
-
pug 306 sedan has rear wiper
allegedly the aerodynamics of saloon cars means that any speed over say 15mph is enough that the air will clear the back window, even though we know this just doesnt work!
-
I don't think many saloon's have rear wipers. Hatchbacks yes, but saloons no.
Personally I've never really felt that need.

I have never known any saloon, let alone a quality one, with a rear wiper. :o :o
The 3.2 Elite was also over £32,000 when new :y

I cannot recall what saloons in at least the popular ranges had / have rear wipers! :o :o :o
Could you please list them? ;)
-
Hatchbacks tend to have rear wipers, but not so many saloons, screen is too curvey.
You can put some rain-x on the rear, helps a bit.

Wasn't that the hatchback version? :-/ :-/ My memory may be playing tricks, but my son had a saloon version of the Orion and that didn't have a rear wiper I am sure :-?
-
I think the Hond prelude had rear wiper, some Peugeot 406's ( including one of mine), Subaru Impreza has had them, 86 onwards Mazda 323's and the Mondeo at one time

Volvo 340 saloon. Mitsubishi carisma.
If you can put a man on the moon in 1969, it should not be beyond the wit of man to fit a rear wiper to a £20-£30,000 premium saloon.
I don't take on board whats been said about aerodynamics, any way, Enzo Ferrari was supposed to have said "Aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines" (With regard to slippery cars)

That was before they were approaching the 200mph barrier. Nowadays you'll note that most of the improvements in Ferraris are in the aerodynamics department. For every 1mph over 200mph you need something like an extra 20bhp.
When they were bulding the Veyron they were topping out at 230mph or thereabouts, even with 1000bhp. They then went back to the aerodynamics drawing board to get the extra speed.

Polish the outside of the rear screen with the usual wax, helps to make the rain run off.
-
Or you could tie chamois leathers to the numerous feet on Albatross's moving avatar.
-
I had a Ford Sierra Hatchback that had a wiper, really handy, miss it on saloon cars, I also do not know of any saloons with wipers, all hatchbacks. ;D ;D ;D
-
Ford Orion is only one I can think of that ever had one. Reality is, it doesn't need one (saloon window doesn't get dirty), nor will it be possible to get one to work well on it.

Both hatchbacks only iirc? Hatchbacks need a wiper to CLEAN window, and the straight (ish) glass makes it easy

Think it was only Ghia and similar models. I remember it looked daft, and didn't work very effectively - yes, I nearly bought a blue 1.6 Ghia, until mum reminded me the family has bad luck with blue cars (that would explain the tractor!), and that I crash every Escort I get in...

Last car before the Mig was a 51saxo VTR...yeah i know but it did handle...Many prevoius cars had rear wash wipe & i missed it at first but none of my OLD cars had them. The VTR was an impulse mistake which was sold within 6 months, i've had the MIG nearly 2 years & it's a "keeper", says it all really. 8-)

THe Orion was an absolute pile of steaming dog doodoo. A previous job had one as a pool car and it was terrbile
