Wasn't he a terrorist involved in bombings for the ANC ???
I suppose now we'll suffer endless tributes about him being a freedom fighter against apartheid.

It's all a matter of perspective... Apartheid was hardly ethical :-\

" No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. "

My best man was a South African classed as coloured because his father was Italian and his mum was Philippino, sort of a grey area between blacks and whites. When he was at university in England he protested outside the South African embassy in Trafalgar square, later to receive a letter from his government stating that he could not return for critising apartheid. So his family moved to the UK, the ban was later revoked.
He was more against the ANC gaining power than the inhuman apartheid situation, and was concerned about what would happen to a great country if power reverted to the indigenous population, like Rhodesia he wasn't wrong.
All a matter of perspective as you say, one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. Adams and McGuiness are a case in point.
I for one will not mourn his passing, just look at the rabble that followed him and what will now happen without his influence

Have you been to South Africa or spent much time there then Cleggy? :-\

True statesman, and an all-round good bloke. had the honour of meeting him in 2003, and he really seemed to be a genuinely nice person.

a great man who fought for what he believed in and forgave those who tried to kill his people

Apparently Evan Davis (wonky eyed bloke on the BBC) suggested at the weekend that Mandela should be ranked alongside Jesus Christ in the pantheon of virtue ! ::)
Words fail me. ;D

A bit strong...
Think Ozzycat hit the nail on the head...
Sure Mandela was no Ghandi, but compared to Bob, Jacob and Forrest Whittaker... hardly Beelzebub :-\
