Title: 2.6 FL estate cat back exhaust system?
Post by: Bikerdon on 07 December 2013, 21:29:06
Hi all, I need to replace the exhaust on my FL 2001 estate 2.6, I've been trawling through loads of posts on here regarding various options from Poland etc, still not 100% clear if there is any difference in the centre sections between saloon and estate or if it is only the back box dimensions that differ. I'm really kind of hoping that this ETS one, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-B-3-0-1994-2001-Silencer-Exhaust-System-/150810088414, for the 3.0 saloon will do the job as the one they have listed for the estate does not appear to have the clamshell centre boxes, I also like the look of the twin exit pipe backbox better. All advice appreciated, and apologies if should not be posting links here.

Yes, different.

If your going to keep the car and can afford a few more ££'s go Stainless,  ;)

As above, centre pipes leaving centre boxes enter back box at different angle. Not interchangeable

So I imagine it would have to be this one, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-B-3-0-1994-2001-Silencer-Exhaust-System-/150810088684, and just hope that the image of the centre boxes is an out of date one? Incidentally it lists the part number for the back box as the same for both systems, e3 03 10141, only difference with the centre sections is saloon centres, e3 03 10145 x2, and estate centres are 3 03 10143 x1 and e3 03 10144 x1.

Fairly sure both the mid and rear box are different.

Just checked, I bought my EternalCar one 4 years ago, still going strong. I use EternalCar ones on the other Omega as well (mid sections only), again no problems.

ETS look to be similarish quality (quite good), but my only experience is on Tunnie's car, when one of the mid sections had the wrong bends, so there was a long delay whilst a replacement was sent. Fortunately tunnie has a spare car.

To add to that, as I've had the MV6 for some time, plus all previous history, looks like the old style genuine GM (better quality, the new ones are shite) consistently lasted 5yrs before needing replacement. I ALWAYS replace all 3 parts at the same time on Omegas, as exhausts rot from inside, so if rotted through on one section, the other 2 aren't far behind. Plus its nigh on impossible to seperate the backbox from the mids after 5 years, without damage.

Many thanks for the photo's and the info guys, quite a significant difference between saloon and estate centre and tail sections. At least I know what I'm after now. but it looks like I wont be able to get an estate system that has the clamshell type centre boxes that I think are more effective, I'll just have to accept the oval type boxes instead  :(. I'm not used to replacing exhausts so often, I just recently scrapped my 1997 scorpio ultima and it still had it's original factory fitted 1 piece cat back silencer on it.

Yes I've looked at the ones on the ETS site too, does the system you got from them have the clamshell type centre boxes or the oval type ones on it, and if so would you happen to have a link to the one you bought from them as the only images they are showing have the oval type centre boxes. I know the 3.2 one will fit the 2.6 as long as I make sure its the estate version. Thanks.

Was also investigating a rattle today and it turns out to be the heat shield on the N/S downpipe, right where it passes the steering idler arm, noise is being caused by the remnants of it rattling off the arm itself, I dont think there is enough of it left to jubilee clip it back on. Is there a major risk of heat damage if it has to be removed? Thanks.
