Am I correct in thinking that if I tow a car with no MOT/tax on the road then it would be illegal. I'm thinking of buying another car but don't want to hire a trailer just for transporting it around 6 miles.

Has to be taxed, not sure about MOT :)

Have a look at page 23 of the legal questions sticky.
Needs tax mot and insurance if towed.

But.
If it is booked in for an MOT it can be driven (I mean this as driven and driving it as a towed vehicle) on the road, but still requires insurance, not sure how the tax situation works here.
Also a point to note.
It is down to the police officers discresion if he agrees regards it being booked in for an MOT . . . . Especially if you are in Southhampton and the MOT is booked in Sheffield

Are you rural, I might be tempted to risk it, use a rigid bar. ;) ;)

If you can borrow a towing dolly it's legal if 2 wheels are off the road or do you know anyone with trade plates?
If not check the lights & drive it home in the dark!!!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Sort of semi rural, thought of risking it but after 30 odd years and no convictions why do it. I did think of booking it in for MOT cause after all you need to get one before you can tax it. But it still needs an exhaust first before MOT.
May have to check out the trailer option on this one.

Thought of that one as well, but the exhaust is blowing like hell, they may not see me very well but would hear me coming sure enough.
