Hi guys.
Ok, found this bad boy which is really bloody useful (i'm sure someone recommended it also)...
http://www.carbibles.com/steering_bible.html
Sadly we've only touched on steering boxes in theory class so I don't really understand their workings. however im going to grill my teacher (by asking him questions...not anything else you sickos ;D) to find out about that but in the mean time I have some questions if any of you boys would like to help me out :)
1.) the diagram in the link....is that exactly how the miggy steering box assembly looks? if not what differences? if I think about it doesn't the miggy only have one idler arm.... or have I got that arse-about-face?
2.) I noticed this article mentions adjusting slack.... I also noticed that 2woody posted some details on how to adjust the steering box....is this adjustment to adjust the slack or play felt in the steering wheel? if so where on the diagram do you adjust?
3.) I trust every item in this set up is replaceable? I don't need to replace mine but its nice to know that if something ever did go wrong I could swap it out :)

ignore that last question.... just re-read one of my posts and they are all replaceable. soz :)

Yep, the steering box on the Omega forms one of the arms, and the single idler arm forms the pivot on the passenger side. The Omega's steering box is a recirculating ball type.
The adjuster is on the top of the Omega's steering box. It actually adjusts the damping of the mechanism around the straight ahead position. There is always a little more play off the straight ahead position. If you think you've got a problem with play, therefore, it's critical that you first verify that the box is in the straight-ahead position when the steering wheel is held central.
Everything can be replaced (with difficulty, in the case of the steering box!).

Thanks kev...
aha! im sure ive got some notes on recirculating ball!!! thanks mate
out of interest say I wanted to replace everything, what would be the ''rough'' procedure.... no need to go in to specifics as im not doing it...as said just out of interest.
when I took the rack out the pug it was basically.... steering wheel straight ahead, uj off from rack, tie rod ball joints loose, lower arm balljoints off, subframe down...out :)

oh and of course disconnecting lines..... and oddly a 16mm bolt holding shift linkage on top of the rack! :o

I doubt a steering box is anything that most of us have ever had need to dismantle ....... just get another if need be ;)

Actually. It wasnt too bad. We expected to have to either remove the coolant transfer pipe, or jack the engine up out the way.
In the end we just undid that torx nut, and the box squeezed past. It also helps to have a 2woody on site mind you. ;)
