Title: Flooded scuttle
Post by: robson on 22 December 2013, 15:06:36
Even after regular cleaning out my scuttle drain has blocked and I think that I just caught it in time before flooding the  car. Has anybody made a modification to solve this ongoing problem with its flooded interior of car and possible speed controller failure consequences.

Short of cutting down surrounding trees, no I don't think so.

Not a problem here.  ....runs out to check ;D

Take the bung out, thats what I thought, does that give any other problems if not why is it there.

The bung acts as a strainer of sorts, so without it bigger debris might then collect elsewhere, eventually causing issues :-\

what is the lesser of the two evils. Am I the only one to have this ongoing problem. I am now uncertain as to what to do. Come on you experts you must have sorted this one in the past. Now loosing sleep as I had this problem with my previous Omega and know what a nightmare it is to change the hedgehog. :(

It must depend on where you park your car. I've only ever cleaned out the scuttle once on my car ..... 10 years ago when I first got it, even then it drained - but slowly ..... never had a problem since.  :-\ ;)

I do have to leave my car outside all the time because the other half has hers in the nice warm garage. I must say that I was very surprised when it filled up this time as I had cleaned it only 2 weeks previously. Will keep a beady eye on it. Has your hedgehog lasted those 10 years?

Mine has lived outside too. Hedgehog is the original unit.  ;) ;)

Think leaves are the real problem as they are what blocks the drain up and them they deteriorate and turn to sludge
I imagine you could fabricate some form of thin mess netting or grille across the open section below scuttle and hold it in place with double sided tape
Trouble would be that also would need constant cleaning but more visible than at the bottom of the inner wing
Just think there have been an extra dump of leaves this year not helped by these high winds
