Title: Been to town this morning
Post by: MR MISTER on 23 December 2013, 13:35:09
Didn't need a thing, we were all done days ago. But there's nothing I like better at Christmas than to sit having a nice latte while watching the great unwashed scamper round the shops like idiots. Lovely. ;D

Nice to see Latte has reached your neck of the woods mate. You'll be getting Italian restaurants next.

I completed my shopping last week, much of which I bought on line.

Looking out at the stormy conditions we have down here at the moment, and for tomorrow apparently, thank God I did! :D :D :D :D :D

Yes I do not miss the frenetic, almost panic, in the shops right now ;) ;)

Mrs E and Miss E got up early 07:30 ..to do the major shopex ... and were home by 09:15 ... seems it was just starting to get manic as they finished.. checkout girl said the first queue started at 06:15 !!!

At least the job is done now .. fridge(s) both full, freezer stacked, lots of wine and beer ... very little to get. I've got to fill with LPG before we go close to Brummieland for xmas day/boxing day with my sister .. but thats about it  .. we're ready for all that xmas throws at us :)

Wishing all OOFers and their families all the very best for xmas and the New Year .. have fun .. but be safe :)

I've spent the afternoon driving from South Wales to Dorset, which on the whole was an easy journey.  :y

The motorways were reasonably quiet and it was only the last 20 miles or so on the country roads where I had to take a big detour round a road closure that I had any hassle!!  :y :y :y

Despite the weather I had no trouble getting to work today, walked from my lounge, through the hall, to the home office, no problem.  :y :y :y ;D ;D ;D

All my shopping done of Thursday morning to take advantage of Aldi special offers, got everything that I wanted on my list, just had to dodge round all of the 85 year olds also doing theirs and Friday evening for the rest.

Aldi on Friday evening was like a plague of locusts had been through with many shelves bare, then went to Lidl with plenty of stock and finally to Tesco for a few minor things the other stores don't stock. The fruit and veg in Tesco was literally stacked 6ft high and in terms of customers it was like the Mary Celeste. I think I know who has won this year's supermarket Christmas sales war.

Aldi and Lidl are both private companies so it is the German owners. Karl Albrecht who owns Aldi Sud which operates in the UK and is Germany's richest citizen at €17.5 billion and Dieter Schwarz who owns Lidl and is worth a mere €11.5billion.  :o :o :o :o

Aldi North is owned and controlled by other members of the Albrecht family and operate in different parts of Germany and Europe where the two Aldi groups don't directly compete against each other.

Small fortunes compared to our very own Lord Opti of course.  :o :o :o :o
