I bought a side of salmon for Christmas and another for the new year. Cooked the first one in a homemade cream of mushroom, dill and parsley sauce with a dash of pepper and lemon accompanied by peas and new potatoes. :y :y :y
The salmon look like you could get about 8 decent portions out of it, so I only eat a 1/3 of it. :-[ ;D ;D ;D

pot noodle for me. :(
My christmas treat - b-luddy luv em, but not allowed on my "diet" :( :( :(
Still, I *am* allowed all the steak I can eat.
Cows are gonna become an endangered animal :)

I currently have a thing for Bombay Bad Boys in the office (cooking/heating facilities in our building are some kettles and a microwave you can't get near at lunchtime).
Oddly, I'm not sure if I like them, as its just a tub of madras curry power with some noddles and peas in, and the essential sachet of chilli sauce, yet there is something about them...

My xmas eve buffet consisted of a doner kebab after my mate lead me astray, and I ended up getting a tad tipsy in town...
I've only just got up, not even been to see if santa has been. Breakfast may be chunder.

I am not condoning not taking the pills but the meds do have some nasty side-effects. Maybe it would be worth asking him if they have been causing him issues.

Do you think the curry night kicked it off? Or something more recent?

I've asked him - he's unforthcoming :(
I've also just found out he's been "borrowing" his mum's ibuprofen to ease the pain - which I'm told is a "No-No" for crohnes?
Please don't think I've no sympathy for him - but he's an adult, and capable of making his own mistakes.
The most I can do is recommend a course of action, and visit him in hospital <rolls eyes>

It was food poisoning from something I ate on the 23rd, so the curry was not to blame. Us crohnies are more susceptible to contaminated food but I must admit this is my worst reaction by far. I was so close to going to A&E on Xmas Eve, only the lack of an abnormally fast heart rate kept me away.

NSAIDs like ibuprofen can cause irritation of the stomach and bowel lining so yes it is not good for those of us with crohns. I have been popping the co-codamol like smarties the past few days, it's the only thing that takes the edge off without going to the stronger opiates such as vicadin or oxytocin off which you would require weaning as they are pretty addictive.
Is he taking mesalazine (Pentasa)? If so the side effects can include; weight-gain, foggy brain, loss of energy and reduced sex drive. The weight gain is a positive sign as it means the drug is working and the body is using less energy creating white-blood cells to attack the intestine, the latter side-effect can be a touchy subject especially if it is affecting any relationship he is/was in. Could be why he is reluctant to open up? Another reason people with crohn's don't open up with others is because they dont feel that they would understand what they are going through. I am not saying you dont or dont care but if that is his perception he might be bottling things up instead.

I'm banned from the sprouts. ::)
Whch I *really* like. :(
and I bought 6kgs at 5p a kilo at Asda t'other day - cooked (and ate) half a kilo for dinner today - big pan of boiling water with a teaspoon of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt. drop the sprouts in, bring back to the boil, take back out - just cooked, still crunchy.
Yum.
Half an hour later, the wind starts...
